Finally, a picture of the buttonwood tree (center, in the background) with all of its leaves gone. We'll try to get a better picture soon, but compare it with the image of the tree we use for our logo.
So now you can see the true situation on the ground down there. Things are bad but not hopeless. The residents are down but not out. They need our help for short term survival and longterm rebuilding.

To quote Rebecca "...thanks to all of you out there who have been sending your thoughts and prayers our way. We need and appreciate every one. I will not lie, things are tuff here right now, so knowing all of you are out there pulling for us gives us the strength to keep on. Thanks so much for all your fund raising. I promise you we are diligently trying to find the most needy, giving to them first, and filtering on through"
PS: Thanks to Peter for pointing out the tree we originally listed as the Buttonwood was incorrect. D'oh!
Rebecca and Lisa,
So happy to find you are both OK. And Lisa, your house survived as well! How is everyone else? I'll check this site daily and hope that everyone remains well.
Treasure Beach is a frequent stop as I travel the Island from my "home spot", Little Bay Westmoreland, and destinations far and wide which include first and foremost, Alligator Pond, and many stops at Treasure Beach.. I am saddened to see the destruction but I am also very thankful that it wasn't worse than it was. Hang in there you people that are residents and know that those of us that love your area, it's people, and surrounding areas are here for you now, and will see to it amongst us that you will not be forgotten in your time of need. Thank you for being there for me in my times of need...
More from Rebecca...
Sheets of zinc form a new sculpture by the post office
The house of Mr Valney of Villa Hikaru, demolished in the storm
Another roof blown off
The beach in front of Rainbow Tree with lots of sea grass and the most sand of any in the area.
So may tress are down or stripped of leaves in the area.
Golden Sands' beach with high seas and a 4-6 feet thick bed of sea grass

Buttonwood Tree - thanks Eric, right one this time! Where has all the sand gone!? Seems to me, from a long way away, that the western ends of most beaches suffered severe scouring. Worry not; the sand always comes back. Just will take time.
So sorry you all had to endure this terrible storm. Our nephew is at Tranquility Bay...any news on the school and the 250 American children there? We are worried.

Hi Sue,
