Considering the number of building damages and roofs blown off, with destruction of phone and electrical lines, May I appeal to the building official, and all the people in the Parrish Council members and the likes to take a look at the building and constrution methods, principles and Practises at the St Elizabeth Parrish level. May be we can lead the way in Jamaica and other Parrishes as to doing things right the first time.
When huricane Andrews hit Homestead and part of Miami,USA, the Roofing Construction Codes and regulations were changed and guess what most part of Florida follows suit, windows that can withstand hurricane wind of 55-110 mile per hour wind are now the norms, electrical, T V cables and telephone wiring, are better installed underground in conduit pipes, these are now the norms and been installed in most cities USA. Electrical Metres are attached to the building rather than meters or miles away from the building that it serves. This prevent saboutage, prevent failures and easily read by the meter readers.
We need to take a second look at our constructions and suffer less when disastater strikes. Most of these measures saves lives, properties, cost of insurance, the cost of rebuilding and a stable society. I hope someone that can effect some changes read this, it only make sense.
Can you imagine most bathroom(toilets) have no electrical outlets.
Someone says insanity is doing things the same way and expect a different result. We need to change and change for the better.
