Look who showed up in the Quick Stick tree this morning.
And I wasn't the only one who noticed!
Parakeets???
Parrots! I believe Amazon Parrots but I may be wrong.
JuJu you would know!
Wow,that's so nice to know they have each other and are making a life in the wild in their newly adopted country. They are yellow naped Amazons,Latin name,Amazona auropalliata, native to Central America, probably Hounduras.I would guess they have been brought in illegally,on fishing boats. In their country of origin, there's,much more rain than in St.Elizabeth.They generally don't make good pets. These birds
are as smart as five year old children, and to condemn them to a boring life in a small cage is cruel. They are as endangered in their own country as all of our Jamaican parrots are. But,as we know,to see them in the wild is the real gift, flying free, screaming at each other while they forage for food.Lets hope this pair can live long healthy live(50 & years)and continue to visit TB in the rain times. It would be great to know if people see them from time to time.
Nuff time mi see dem dunga lewistown
Thanks for your response JuJu. I knew you would recognize them!
Is the quickstick tree the same as the moranga tree? The pods look the same.
