So far as I know, the children from Tranquility Bay are still up in the hospital (being used as a shelter) in Mandeville. They should be brought back when the roads are passable and the area is more safe.

Karen,

The hurricane warning has been lifted from Jamaica, indicating that the heavy stuff is finished. But everything I've seen makes me think its still raining at this time.

stormcarib.com is reporting that:

"Power106FM Radio is broadcasting from Jamaica. Listen in at www.go-jamaica.com/power/ [the link seems to be down at this time, though. If it comes back up, please let us know here!]. Apparently you can e-mail them at power106@cwjamaica.com or call (876) 968-4901-3 to ask about loved ones' whereabouts."

There's a report that you can use Digicell's free text messaging by sending an email to the cellphone number like this:

I sent one to Rebecca in the small hope that she'll get it. It didn't bounce back, so maybe it went through. Probably its sitting waiting for her to collect it, but without power or the phone service down there, it may be a while before she gets it. But I had to try.

The person your sending to MUST HAVE A DIGICELL phone for this to work.

876XXXXXXX@digitextjm.com

where XXXXXXX is the 7 digit digicel telephone number.

It if works for you, please let us know here.

Good luck

Hi everyone this is Fiona Moxam [initial reports here of a death of a fisherman in great Bay have proved untrue, thankfully -TBNet] Also, a school in Balaclava where people were sheltered in the basement has washed away, no news if the people inside was saved. Also, alot of roofs have blown off throughout Treasure Beach and the surrounding areas. If anyone have received any information on what's going on in Tresure Beach please let us all know.

Let's try to be sure before repeating things that we hear, especially concerning death.

The latest on Tranquility Bay students is still that they were evacuated to Mandeville. Nothing new has come in.

There's a thread on jamaicans.com on the issue, but doesn't have much new information.

Sounds like they are out of harm's way, thankfully.

Good news for Cuba...Ivan has moved west and the prediction I just saw on the weather channel shows it just pasing over the western tip of the island. Good luck!

Its also projected to decerase to Cat 3 before hitting the florida panhandle at panama beach. BUT these are just predictions, so nothing definite!

Everyone in Billy's Bay is okay! There are no injuries or deaths. There has been extensive property damage. Miss Verlin lost her roof. Mr. Valnie's house has been demolished. One of the Sparkling Waters homes (one of the original ones that hung over the water) fell into the sea. Rainbow Tree held, and many people (including Miss Verlin) are staying in it. There is no power. Fences have been wiped out. The vegetation is essentially gone. The landscape is littered with zinc from roofs. But, the important thing is that the people are safe and sound -- and everyone is already pulling together to rebuild.

Thanks Rebbeca for the info. I have heard from Mike Town District in Mandeville, Manchester a lot of the roofs were lost and most of the trees lye flat on the ground.

Jason Sinclair/Smith of Sommerset district.
My prayers goes out to all Jamaicans.
But wat does not cause life does not cause anything.
My condolences to those who hav lost love ones due to Ivan.
