Hi everyone,
I love to follow and read these pages from a slightly cooler Scotland. : D Most of my family are from Treasure Beach my Uncles being Wilton and Lansel and my Dad Aston (Mike) Graham.
I have been trying to put the family tree together for sometime but after almost a year of research I have come to a halt. It has stopped at my great great Grandfather Duncan Graham. I am trying to establish his date of birth and also the full name of his wife. From his marriage details I know he Married Margaret (possibly middle name, and surname Anne Ebanks) on 25th Dec 1860. I am finding Ebanks everywhere a bit like Smith in the UK so its proving difficult.
It has been quite a journey so far and quite emotional at times due to the hardships highlighted during the reading of documents.
I have a feeling that Duncan may have been the ancestor that arrived in Jamaica but I am not totally sure by what means. Or maybe he didnt? My great uncle Joe (Bowl) RIP was clear that his wife (Duncan's) had come on a ship from Scotland? Without her surname it is almost impossible to check this fact. Maybe he (Duncan) had migrated too? Any help from this community would be appreciated.
Doris Robertson (nee Graham)
Doris,
If my memory serves me correct, Uncle Joe's wife was Doris Deleon from Great Bay. I am not sure if she was connected to anyone by the name Duncan. Maybe Hursley could help you out on this one.
Hi Doris,
I have just emailed the attached email address in your name about the Bowl/Graham name.
if it didn't reach you, feel free contact me

Your uncle Lancel Graham is probably the oldest man in Calabash Bay, I think he would be the best source of the information you seek. Or he may be able to refer you to someone else. Good luck with your search .
Hi Jenny,
Getting information is like trying to find a needle in a haystack but I am still determined.
I would love to know that the genealogical roots of treasure beach has been documented.
Various records are available but I think they key lies in the memories of our elders.
They have the stories, the pictures, the missing information that can help piece it all together.
you should try family search familysearch.org. They have ton loads of birth registrations on there
Doris…There's a book that I picked up, I believe from the British Library, in London: "Tracing Your West Indian Ancestors" (by Guy Grannum) put out by the Public Records Office of their National Archives. It has a heap of Research & editorial guides for sources dating back to the 16th century.
Specifically for Jamaica, some of the the areas covered:
(1) The Colonial Office Series
(2) Colonial Office Returns of Baptism etc
(3) Nominal Censuses
(4) Land Grants
(5) Miscellaneous Documents
(6) Archives of Useful Addresses (including Genealogy of Jamaica by MadeleineE.Mitchell): www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jamwgw/
(7) Further Reading sources
One little tidbit that might pique your interest from the book: "Planters were evacuated to Jamaica from Surinam in 1675, and survivors from the ill-fated Scottish colony of Darien settled in 1699."
Dear Doris,
I have met Lancel twice now and let me tell you, he is very sharp for his age and is in great shape. He is a very lovely gentleman and you should be proud to have him as a relative.
Good luck in your search
