The Treasure Beach Women’s Group kicked off its summer art and craft training workshops on Saturday July 12, with Starlight Painting and followed up on Saturday July 19 with Fabric Printing.
The workshops, which are free to all participants, are sponsored by a grant from CFISH/CARIBSAVE and is aimed and upgrading and providing new skills to members of the Treasure Beach Community.
The Starlight Painting Workshop was conducted by Orville Isaacs, one of the artists on the TBWG roster of artists, who market their products through the Treasure Hunt Craft Shop.
17 participants, aged between 5 and 70+, produced 16 beautifully decorated Starlights. They were guided through the steps it takes to transform the raw clay product to the finished Starlight. For most of the participants, it was their first time painting starlights.
On Saturday July 19, 15 persons showed up for Fabric Printing. The objective was to produce table mats with a marine theme and participants were guided through the process of using sponge and wooden blocks to print images with a marine theme on suede fabric. Each person produced one set of 4 place mats. The workshop was conducted by Denise Wedderburn, TBWG Project Co-ordinator and one of the artists on the TBWG roster of artists, who market their products through the Treasure Hunt Craft Shop. This workshop attracted men and women as well as other younger persons from outside of the immediate Treasure Beach Community.
The next TBWG/CFIS workshop held on Saturday July 26, was Paper Bead Jewelry making.
The starlight painting workshop went on well on Saturday.
Next Saturday is soap making so come on out to learn how to make soap!
Do you know what type of soap will be made--meaning from what basic material(s) and using what scents?
Fantastic , I really think there are opportunities to make TB a centre for arts and crafts as a cottage industry as well as developing a school to build a tourism industry that is a fit with the community .
