My name is Charles Bush and I am from the Cayman Islands. My gg-grandfather, Julius Edwin Crowe, was from St. Elizabeth. He was born about 1867. For the past two years I have been trying to connect Julius Crowe back to his St. Elizabeth roots.

One of the key pieces of information I have is that my gg-grandfather had a brother named "Waxie" Crowe who ran the family business which included merchant vessels. I have been able to gather some other information about Waxie Crowe, including:

*"Waxie" Crowe sold land to Maisie Campbell from Flagaman and also sold land to a Mr. Gilpin for a few shillings.

*"Waxie" Crowe was a first cousin to Frederick Adolphus Parchment m. Sarah Jane Crowe and that, possibly, "Waxie's" mother's maiden name was Parchment.

*"Waxie" was either married to or had a relationship with Sarah Louise Parchment, who died in 1973. Their son was Everett M. Parchment, who held prominent positions in Jamaica's government. Mr. Parchment died in 1995 in Great Pedro Bay and was survived by his wife Pearline.

To date, I have not been able to learn "Waxie's" real name and would be grateful for any assistance that I could obtain from this forum in learning that.

Thank you.

Hi GB, thanks for your post. Around what year was this that you used to go by his house?

I do not have a Nevis Crowe in my tree. Was that his name or a nickname?

Can you remember any other relatives?

Thanks again.

Hi GB, thank you for this additional information. I think I have heard of this vessel before, the Snow Boy. Hmmm.

The Snowboy sank in 1963 and Alvery Crowe was indeed a passenger, as you said.

Could Nevis have been Waxie's son?

CDB if you are still checking this post, I believe the house that belonged to Waxie Crowe is now the Sand Dune Guest House in Great Bay. Nevis was a close relative but I don't know the exact relationship. He lived in a house just above the Police Station. He was affectionately known as Primo (Spanish for cousin), a nickname he earned after returning from Cuba.

Hi Charles,I am an avid researcher on family ancestry and is currently writing a book on my family's ancestry. In my search I came across some very important information on Great Bay families. Waxie Crowe was named William Crowe. He died in 1962 and was buried in the family's burial plot on land now owned by Maizie Campbell of Flagaman. Sarah Parchment, Everett Parchment (his son who was born in 1921), his parents and two sibblings are also buried there. One of his relative (Gwendolyn) who died at the age of 45 in 1952 is also interred in the burial plot. I do hope that this information will be of help to you.

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't not checked in a while. Been busy with a new job.

Johnny and Fabian thank you for this information. Wow!

Fabian do you know Waxie's parents' names &/or the names of the two siblings buried near him? This is a huge help. I'm so grateful and excited.

Just Saying and Frenchman: I have been working on this project to connect my gg-grandfather for over two years now. It's quite serious to me. Your posts seem to belong to a different thread. I'm kindly asking that you please respect that I am trying to do serious research to help my family connect to our roots.

Thank you.

CDB

Hi Charles Bush,

I just emailed the address in your name link with information about the Parchment family tree but it failed to send/bounced back.

Copied and Pasted:I too am currently trying to trace my family tree and I believe that Frederick Adolphus Parchment, born around 1841 was my Great Great Grandfather. I had it written down that he was married to Sarah Elizabeth Crowe born on the 25 May 1842, you called her Sarah* Jane* Crowe, which source did you get those names from?

I am about 60% sure I have managed to trace the Parchment name back to 1640, but I have only recently started seriously trying to trace the name, and as you probably know, receord keeping was not that great and I have found a few discrepancies.

I am fairly certain that the basic Parchment timeline was;

My Great Grandmother Florence Parchment b. 2 September 1888

Her Father Frederick Adolphus Parchment b. 1841

Then I think his Father was Nicholas Maitland Parchment b. around 1800, married to Sarah Ewell b. 1818

(Nicholas Maitland Parchment might be the brother of Julius and Williams' Mother)

If that is true then I think his father was also called Nicholas Parchment b.2 November 1785. (I have not found out who his wife was yet.

Anyway, your if Great Great Grandfather Julius and brother William were first cousins to Frederick Parchment, then according to my basic research, this Nicholas Parchment b.1785 is both yours and mine Great Great Great Great Grandfather.

The main names I am looking at are Deleon/Dillion, Parchment and Daly. Also connected through marriage is Crowe, Ebanks, Gale and Maitland.

I've found it quite hard so far because of poor record keeping at the time as well as intermarriage between cousins with the same name and people having 12+ children, so even though every Parchment in the St Elizabeth area at one point came from the same source, you'd have to look way back in the generations before you got there.
