Local Economic Development in Treasure Beach is a private sector led project funded by Compete Caribbean - www.competecaribbean.org working with Breds The Treasure Beach Foundation as the organisation which submitted the proposal.
The project was officially launched on Friday 14th March 2014 announcing funding of US $500,000 with counterpart funding of US $127,000 to be contributed by the cluster.
The project aims to a) increase revenue for local businesses who are directly or indirectly involved in and/or serve the tourism industry
b) provide more employment for people living in the Greater Treasure Beach area.
This will be achieved by building a business cluster. This could be described as a Local Chamber of Commerce with a focused agenda. The cluster will be engaged in designing a vision for Treasure Beach, whilst also working with other private and government bodies to develop strategic directions and policies. To date the response from local business has been encouraging.
The Cluster Facilitator appointed by Compete Caribbean is Maisie Allen who is an independent consultant and a long time volunteer with Breds. For further information please contact: maisie@breds.org.
Firstly, I don't believe in any group of people coming together to "design a vision" I have no idea what that means. That sounds like just a lot of talk. How about someone who has an idea that came to him or her intellectually or through his or her life experiences.
Call it a vision if you like, and say: Here is what I have in mind, let us pool our resources together and do this.
I ,for one, has a billion dollar idea sitting in my head for years, to start a new industry that could employ hundreds of people. It would serve as an added attraction to visitors and locals alike. The question is, who is willing to invest in an idea?
Plant trees, stop poisoning the air and water, use resources frugally, install solar and eat from the plant world.
If one wants Miami Beach, go there.
"increase revenue for local businesses ...." define please?
'private sector', 'cluster', cluster will provide $127,000???
'designing a vision of Treasure Beach' ???
I am all for progress but to be honest unless you build an airport, TB is never going to attract major tourism, but then that is not what local people want.
A start would be decent roads, help to stop flooding and the electricity and water not going off.
After many years of trials and tribulations I now manage to keep the mosquitos at bay, but they are my big hate of JA!
I would like to see a small natural history museum developed in Treasure Beach that would serve to educate both TB residents and visitors alike about the plants, animals and fish that live in and visit the area. I believe this would further the conservation of the area we love through education while drawing in tourist dollars.
