just wondering if anyone cares to share their favourite excursions in jamaica
can be a tourist spot or an out of the way special place you know of
or maybe there is someplace that is on your bucket list for jamaica

the other week we went along the newly opened south coast road, it was not bad but kinda rough in a few spots and very secluded .....

there was a sign and a pathway thru a couple of gates for guts river.....we started down the path, we barely passed thru the gates when we both got an eerie feeling and backed right up outta there.....
a bit further down the road we saw guts river going into the sea but the entire area was fenced off with barbed wire and no trespassing or private property signs were up.....we carried on along the way to milk river
any hints on how to get to the sea side at guts river?

had a great soak in milk river, seems that they forgot to come and get us after the paid for 15 min soak, $400J for 15 mins, so we came out when we were ready, very nice
i forget how much a day pass was, think lunch was included maybe it was about 2,400J? i could be mistaken

the drive was great, lonely roads in jamaica can be spooky so go with a trusted driver and take time
make sure to stop at spur tree hill (just south of mandeville) for some jerk there are 2 or 3 bookshops there

walk good

In 1985 on Christmas Eve I hiked to Blue Mountain, started in Mavis Bank and hiked to Whitfield Hall. Ran into several Jamaicans along the way, was fun to see everybody's yards and see how they were preparing for Christmas. We then got up at 3 am for our final push to the peak (7 miles) the smells, the misty cool air and the greenery were incredible. At the peak there were 30 members of the church of Latter Day Saints. They said they were trying to escape the commercialism of Christmas and tried to recruit us to there religion. This was a little disappointing but we enjoyed the view and moved on. The walk back down was just as fun and Whitfield Hall guesthouse is a piece of Jamaican history. This is one of my favorite memories of an excursion in Jamaica.

Mayfield Falls...on the way to the West Coast...only wish they didn't insist on guides following you up the Falls, in the event that the surging spume of the river brought on romantic urges, without the intrusion of spying eyes. The operators offer you a decent menu, which is prepared while you climb the trails bask &in the river pools. You're often alone in nature (besides the guide & sometimes videographer) in this lush mountain retreat...then you're on your way before arriving at Green Island where you can check out Half Moon Beach & cottages for an over-nite before a flight out of MoBay.

Probably the reasons that Mayfield Falls doesn't get as much interest & celebration as YS Falls are probably due to the roads.
If you're traveling north out of Sav, you have a choice of taking the Banbury or Amity Cross routes (approx 24 km) on some fairly bad potholed roads, which may or may not have been filled.
If you're approaching the Falls from the North, probably the best approach is around Lucea...inland from Moskito Cove towards Cascade, but there are several turnoffs, which could confuse, if you don't have a nose/pointer guidance for switching directions!

I'd ask Rebecca at Treasure Tours the conditions of the routes which her drivers might be able to confirm, or arrange tours.

Close to Treasure Beach my favored spot is Rudy's at the river. Great fresh water swimming, quiet, place to throw a frisbeee or boot the futbol....and beer. It is in Vineyard, either a boat ride from TB or a $500J taxi ride.

Sitting at Eggy's early in morning around 8am and watching the beach slowly come alive with different people. Then coming back to Eggys in the late evening and having a few beers and enjoying the crowd that forms for the sunset.
ONE LOVE !!
Mike

Sitting at Eggy's drinking Red Stripe watching the sunset and talking to many different people. We loved it so. Does anyone know how to get in touch with Richard from Golden Sands? Have phoned and e-mailed without any luck. Thanks.
