A few Sundays ago a group of us got together early in the morning and went out with Carvel, Bobby, and Sally from the Treasure Beach Sea Turtle Group to see if there was any activity the night before.
We saw many turtle tracks and the guys showed us the location of lots of nests. We even got lucky enough to come across a nest where the turtles hatched in the night. There was one caught in the nest that they released.
Carvel showed us how one died because of a piece of plastic wrapped around him.
And we saw one that died due to someone having a bonfire on the beach and the baby turtle just heading towards the light and got too close.
The experts counted the eggs and recorded their findings.
What a wonderful learning experience and just a great way to start out the day!
Coming soon - The Treasure Beach Sea Turtle Group hosting 2 and 3 hour tours.
keep up the good work and let us know what we can do to help. we must be good stewards of the land and sea and the creatures therein.
Good move and step in the right direction.
Went on the walk and can't say enough about the educational, fun, exciting, adventurous time we had. Early morning on the beach was beautiful...Bobby and Carvel were attentive, knowledgeable and enjoyed sharing information as we walked along the beach. Seeing how they document the nests, tracks and eggs was a true learning experience. We encourage visitors and local folks to take the tour when it comes, learn about the turtles and support the work that is being done by the Treasure Beach Sea Turtle Group. Thanks for the tour and experience!
That will be a great thing! Sign us up.
B E A U T I F U L ! I love the idea of The Treasure Beach Sea Turtle Group hosting 2 and 3 hour tours.
Thank you for sharing this great day with us Rebecca, it is very interesting and I already want to "subcrib" on this tour. I will follow the news about it.
Take good care of those babies and I add a message to the one who had made a bonfire (and to those who would be taunted to do it) :
PLEASE respect the beach and the environnment ;-)
Who to contact for this tour ? Can you please provide details ? I would love to join
When the details are sorted we will post them here. We look forward to your participation.
Walked down that same stretch of beach last evening at sunset and came on three turtle hatchlings running across the beach. We followed the tracks back to the nest and were able to watch at least a hundred more emerge from the sand and head down into the sea. We never get tired of seeing them go. This has been a good year for our Treasure Beach's sea turtles.
