Two Seasons Guest House joins countries around the world in celebrating the 14th anniversary of ‘International Men’s Day’ on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 around the theme: "Keeping Men and Boys Safe". The focus is on "men's and boy's health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models. health and safety-wise."(www.internationalmensday.com).

Some thoughts: Who are the male role models in Treasure Beach and the wider Jamaica, the world?

What about the safety of the many fishermen of Treasure Beach?

Is there/should there be an organisation equivalent to the Treasure Beach Women's Group for the men and boys of Treasure Beach?

Is there a need for "gender-specific" organisations and days (International Women's Day was on March 8, 2013, May is child month and Universal Children's day is November 20).

Warm regards

Christine

Treasure Beach male role model?
I think Capt. Dennis Abrahams, aka Shabba, would make a great Jamaican PM and certainly a great male role model for Treasure Beach.

What about Capt Dennis (or any other man, for that matter) makes you recommend him as a male role model?

By the way, I have referred guests to him.

Dear Christine, I have never used him for a Black River tour as we "belong" to Teddy. However I've had numerous discussions with Dennis on ecology, Jamaica, Treasure Beach and our places in the grand scheme of things. I find Shabba very deep and thoughtful and he is right up there with my late father as a man I admire.
