Hello,

I am trying to find out any information I can on "Maxie" Crowe, who was probably born circa 1860/1870 and owned a shop and a boat in Treasure Beach in the later 19th/early 20th century. If possible, I'd love to know his real name or any information on his family (parents, cousins, etc.)

His brothers were Julius Edwin Crowe (1867) and Adolphus Crowe (abt 1872).

Alternatively, if someone could direct me to a historical society in Treasure Beach that could better assist, I would also be grateful.

Thank you.

I am not sure if this is the person you ask about, but long ago there was a shop and bakery in Great Bay that was owned by a certain Mr. Crowe. This business was located next to the current Sand Dune Guest House which may have been the site of M. Crowe's residence. The shop has long been torn down but I believe remnants of the outdoor brick oven may still be visible. Photos of the oven have been shown on this site by various photographers.

If I am not mistaken, the aforementioned Mr. Crowe had a son who was amongst the unfortunate fishermen who disappeared on the ill-fated fishing vessel Snow Boy a little over 50 years ago. Finally, there may be someone in the district of Beacon (Bacon?) who could give you more info on Mr. Crowe's background as I believe he was originally from that area.
