Good question? Gun over one arm and beer in the other!! Seen many times too. Although I must say the ones I have seen were in plain clothes!

I never noticed them drinking "lots of it" but I do frequently see police in uniform in Jamaica drinking in bars including the bars that are located AT POLICE STATIONS. So guess you could say it is accepted to have a beer or two even in uniform. If there is an official policy I would bet it is enforced just as "strictly" as everything else is enforced which is saying not so much...

I have many pics of me and unnamed police there. Gun in pants waste, and a beer in one hand. Been like that in Jamaica since I can remember, 1985???

The reason why you see these type of behavior with police drinking on the job it could only happen in third world countries. They suppose to set example and drinking on the job you should get fired and weed out the bad ones...

Jamaica need to clean up all the mess and stop talking about other countries... Typical third world country bribery and don't care who get hurt.

Deb ,i have never see a police officer in a bar drinking while on duty in the U S A and if they do ,i sure some one will report them and they will lose their job,in Jamaica it never bother me, i get used to it was the norm,i am more concern about the criminals who on the lose ,the untouchables with political attachment, who whenever they caught, they are set free because of their connection.

Honestly !!
I have NEVER seen an American cop drinking while on duty. He would be reported immediately by any citizen.
This is not to say that there aren't bad American cops, just that they would NEVER openly consume alcohol while on duty.
ONE LOVE !!
Mike

The laws in Jamaica needs to be changed.

How can Police Officers drive and drink and then arrest someone for the same act.

This to me is scary. The blind leading the blind.

SO WHO IS IN CHARGE?

I could go on and on posting similar links but the three below should serve to illustrate that this is not just a Third World Problem.

And lest anyone should be in doubt, this is not, for one moment, to justify the actions of the Jamaican police.

I heard on the news the other day someone from the government calling on all citizen to report any wrong doing in the law inforcement department, so I think drinking on the job should be reported too. They need to set example for the young people.

Nothing wrong with the police mingling with residents and tourists having a beer or two! It helps to build the community bond and the relationship between the police and community. I love having a beer with the police!

we all want Jamaica to not be just another third world nation but to at least reach to the second world,so we all should encourage the men of the island not to sit around drinking, smoking and chasing skirts but instead to work and be more gainfully employed. That will bring about a lot of good but easier said than done I know.

Well....Let me tell you a little bit of news! Last night I was watching Channel 7 News (Fox) at 10:00 pm....Lo and behold, it was reported that a drunk Miami Police Officer had rammed his cruiser into a man's car, and took off. Yes...he left the scene of an accident and he was on duty too. Now tell me...how did this happen?

Sad to say.....no police is exempt from this kind of behavior whether it is Jamaica, USA, Canada, third World country, developed country or what. This is happening everywhere. Police officers worldwide are guilty of betraying the badge in one way or the other. They chase skirts, they rape, they get drunk, they speed on the roads, they do a lot of things that are illegal, so please do not point fingers.

Obviously it is more than just a third world problem but it is a bigger problem in third world countries where there seems to be no standards of what is right or wrong or plain old common sense. The point is it is a human nature problem. When you are a public servant you will be judged at at higher standard right or wrong.

Let's not forget there are many good cops. Many of us have them as our brothers, sisters, friends or other family member. It is our duty to ensure that we influence them as such. The police are supposed to protect the people of their community. What about the perpetrators of justice known as our political leaders? Naturally there is the possibility of police and politicians to wash each others hands at the expense of the people. So, it is our duty to remind police that they have a choice: you can be with us or against us. If them head get big because they wear badge and costume, and dem behave corrupt, we have a duty to RUN THEM {edited by TBNet}

Again, most policeman and woman are good people. They who care about protecting the people of their communities. And it would be foolish to think that corrupt people are not attracted to positions of power.

That is why we, the people must keep them in check, and embrace them as community members.
