We will be visiting Treasure Beach for the first time during Thanksgiving week. Visited Negril several times before and looking for something a little more laid back. Interested in chilling out, eating Jamaican food, and snorkeling (bringing our own gear). We would like to take a day trip into Negril to see some friends. Any recommendations for a driver and for good local places to eat? Thanks in advance.

Most guest houses and villas have a driver they can recommend for you. As for places to eat on the way to or from Negril, I would recommend a stop at Culloden Cafe located just outside of Whitehouse. Excellent food (especially desserts with homemade Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Tia Maria Cake, Tropical Carrot Cake, and much more) along with great ambiance as they provide seaside dining.

Ask for Roni. Great guy, safe driver and good rates. Very friendly and accomidating. He was recomended to me by a staff member at Sunset resort. I will never use anyone else!
PS... If you see him, tell him Ken and Nadine will soon be sending him his maple syrup and wild rice.

Robert's in Belmont/across from Horizon does good soups, roast fish and cheap boxlunches (curry chicken/steamfish, cabbage salad, festival or rice n peas) to go. K.D.'s a half-mile down on the seaside does good fish and Dorrit's aka Oceanside Pub is known for her curried landcrab backs. Sheck's in the Bluefields Beach jerkstand park is good for steamfish. Jaci Fraser at OASIS SPA in Belmont is a good stop for both spa treatments/snorkelling in bay and lunch/if ordered ahead of time with massage appointment. Culloden Cafe is best for dinner/closed Tuesdays. Their gazpacho, New Zealand spinach salad and sweets are best -- and the sweets/cakes/pies/tortes/cookies/bakery goods can be ordered also to go if you call 24 hrs ahead. Best of these might be the chocolate truffles, wrapped in banana leaves, a clever take-off on Jamaican duckanoo/tie-a-leaf blue drawers sweets. There's also a rather scrufty looking but fairly decent Chinese/Jamaican place just outside Sav on the road to Negril.

Tiv, you made me hungry.

We're staying in TB in Sept/Oct and also going to Negril for a day....will keep thsoe in mind, I remember the yummy smells coming from Robert's across from Horizon very well!!

Would box lunches be pretty much ready to grab and run or would there be a wait, do you know? If a wait I might have to see if Mary can let my friends take a peek at Horizon....

If you would like, I can call ahead to place your order. Or, of course you can give your friends a tour around Horizons while you wait.

Krisi and Brad Siems (of TB) are summer/fall managers this year at HORIZON. They'd be happy to welcome you for a go-see when you're down en route to Sparkling Waters. There's little or no wait at Robert's so just park and stroll across
and introduce yourselves to Krisi and Brad or yardies Laga, Trevor, Clive and Hopi. Or check out Gerry's little woodcarving stand a few chain up the road...or get a massage out on the jetty at OASIS SPA (see www.oasisspajamaica.com) if you call ahead and talk to Jaci Daly Fraser/some 'Summer Special Discounts" on now she'll probably continue into fall.

Jaci Daly Fraser is Canadian/Toronto -- possible S.A. but don't know that for a fact.
