Race track on the pond? Am I hearing right? Somebody please tell me there is no truth in that.On my visits to Treasure Beach I always stop on Sandy Bank hill and enjoy the beautiful scenery across to the pond. I heard the pond is dry now but what will hapen when the rain comes?

Not sure what may happen to bike churned Great Pond soil.

The young people want proper recreation spaces. That's the signal.

Put some of that stored green energy into facilities we all can enjoy in the right places and times. I'm sure profit is to be had.

It seems Mother Nature and the police are taking a stand. My understanding is police came to the pond yesterday evening and ran everyone off.

I was just sent the following photos from someone who was at the pond a few days ago. It seems a minibus attempted to drive over the pond.

gp1

gp2

A friend was called and asked to help pull out the bus with his van.

gp3

My understanding is it took about 2 hours and 20 men to finally get both vehicles out.

gp4

A good friend of mine owns a house near the Pond and is there right now. She has told me that {edited by TBNet} young Jamaican men are riding motorcycles unabated in the dry pond area, making a lot of noise and kicking up dust. They are doing it for hours at a time.
This is not right. A nice residential area of Old Wharf is too close and bears the brunt of this activity. Why do Jamaicans continue to do things that are detrimental to their community, environment and economy?
Where are the police? Why is there not more leadership? Jamaica is falling into a situation where many foreign investors like me are hesitant. I own land in Old Wharf near Taino Cove. Many others are selling and giving up on Jamaica.

when the rain comes, the Race track is closed for the next 17 years, but
the sleepy fishing village is gone, every evening we hear now the noise from the race track,if we do not hear the noise from the race track,we hear the speeding taxi,
if we don't hear the speeding taxis,
we smell burnt grass
if we don't smell grass,
we have no water
if we have water,we have no guests
if we have guests we have no beer, because the {edited by TBNet} beer truck come only when u call in front,
if we have beer, the supermarkt chicken costs now over 1000,
if you do not like chicken, buy saltfish, just 451,25 a pound
and if you do not like saltfish
than turn off the stove, because a saw a cabbage for 300

Great idea Windaway, and with the breezes we've been having lately they would fly!

Thanks for the pictures Bebecca, I am glad to hear that the police run them off the pond. Hopefully some of the fish eggs survived and there will be fish in the pond when the rain comes.

I heard there is quicksand somewhere there. Would be quite a job getting bus and all out if they hit the spot.

"Bus, police pursuit vehicles and 20 yout disappear in Saint Elizabeth pond, River Mumma claims her own".

This should be for the actual Treasure Beach residents to decide. The majority of the people complaining are people who do not live in Treasure Beach full-time. Finally the young people have created their own entertainment and found something to keep them out of trouble. As soon as the rain comes, the fun will be over...so why not let them enjoy it while they can?

I agree with you, give them a break. The place is so darn boring. Music too loud! Bikes are a problem, fire is a problem, unemployment is a problem. All over Treasure Beach is problems!

no work?
just saying.....i know of one man that was looking to hire at least 3 or 4 men in treasure beach and could not find anyone to work for him
he had to get people from outside the area
just saying.....

There is always going to be the scenario of someone looking for work and there will always be someone hiring having to seek everywhere.
Don't forget 'just saying,' there are always going to be people looking for work who will begrudge the innuendo that they aren't looking hard enough or doing enough to find work because someone somewhere couldn't hire.

It's so easy to criticise and inflame for so many. Just saying! Yet praise and big ups inspire and lift spirits higher than any su su.

And the winner is . . . .

Mother Nature! A storm went through Treasure Beach on Monday night bringing heavy winds, lots of much needed rain and an end to racing on the pond for now.

Good for them, we need some more of Mother Nature to keep out the racing.

I wouldn't worry too much about fish in the pond. Any fish there would have been seeded within the last thirty years and are not native species. And who eats that stuff anyway, considering the source of the water with all its contaminants of fertilizer and manure?

The dust from racing on the dry pond bed now; that's a ledgitimate concern to residence and business places.
