Do you have an extra bedroom in your home in Treasure Beach that you would be willing to host international visiters in exchange for the experience and compensation?

Looking for potential hosts for 2 weeks to 3 months.

Needed are family oriented hosts who are open-minded and patient with visiters and can provide a homey environment that safely immerses the guest into daily life.

Would need to be within walking distance to the Calabash Bay PA.

If you have family or friends that may be interested, please email on their behalf.

We are trying to coordinate more affordable housing for long term volunteers who cannot afford to stay in guesthouses for such periods of time.

This would start in 2014, right now we are just checking out interest level in the area.

Please email with
Host name-
Phone # and email if available-
# of private rooms available (or # of beds in private room)-
Length of time you are willing to host for(2 weeks-3months)-
Ages of other family members in house-

We will email and or call all who reply.

Thank you for your time!

We have volunteers come in from around the globe, spend a week or more in Treasure Beach, assisting at schools mostly anywhere from Treasure Beach, Flagaman, Vineyard, Paratee, Round Hill, Seaview and more.

We have built or assisted in building playgrounds at 15 schools. Most of the ones you see along the road to Black River included. (Newell, Barbary Hall, Watchwell etc).

Guests stay in Treasure Beach and many return later with friends or family. Right now there are 6 girls in town, several of whom arrived for the first time last March on a volunteer trip with VIJON. This is typical, and we generally bring 150 volunteers to the area each year. If one in ten returns on vacation later, it has a great benefit to our community and it has!

We have been hosting volunteers in Treasure Beach for almost 10 years.

Axel, you or Andrea may remember some our volunteers spent a few days with you a few years ago, but can't remember if it was a couple from NZ?

If transportation could be provided, can it be further than walking distance to Calabash PA? I think this really limits the economic benefits only to those who live in/near Calabash--which is a much richer area than other parts of TB.

I have seen VIJON in action. This is a great organization. The TBWG house looks fabulous thanks to this organizations renovation and paint job!

We are hoping to hear from anyone interested. It is very possible that even if you are further away something may work out.

Homestays are a really great way to really immerse the guests into the culture and at the same time provide an economic benefit and cross-cultural experience for the hosts.

So TB Resident, please do email with any contact and we can discuss further.

Hi Rebecca, sorry to say we didn't paint the TBWG house. But we have done painting at Sandy Bank Basic, where we painted alot of desks, built and painted a wooden safety rail to protect the kids from the high verandah and to provide a railing for the steps and added a few items to the playgrounds.
We have done painting for God's School and even the outside wall and gate of Pedro Plains Primary, where one year we totally redid the computer lab, stocked it with some donated machines and coordinated for two great volunteers to teach computing for the year!
There was a group here earlier in May that helped build our first "seesaw" up at Hope Basic School in Round Hill. A goal for by 2014 is to build and and distribute sea saws to all of the basic schools we've already done playground work with, roughly a dozen or so.

On that note, I've reached out but not yet heard from both Breds and TBWG that there is a healthy crop of volunteers willing to help, if they need any with community projects.

It certainly makes coordinating projects easier if they are within our community and not a half hour or more drive away! Hopefully there will be more VIJON volunteers can contribute within the community, not just the schools in the near future.

Thanks for the correction Stephanie. You're right, it was VETO, another great organization.

But thanks for letting us know all that VIJON has done for our community and we wish you continued success with the program.

I think this is a very exciting programme and it is great that people of good will from elsewhere are continuing to visit and assist our community.

Just to note though that hosting for two to three months could become a bit trying for both hosts and guests, depending on the circumstances.

It might also be useful, if this can be arranged, to split the time with more than one host.
