Some one com-ment-ed on the inter-net that,if you wanted to see how children and tour-ists are being pro-tect-ed on the local road and the high-way,with stop lights and other pre-ven-tion of dangers, just come to Negril, jamaica.

I am not sure if i ever drove thru.Negril,or not. I been to the Montego-Bay Air Port and thru.the mountain back home to treasure beach.Negril as we know,is a hot-spot for tourists.
I been to Ja's capital and Mande-ville and i have seen street lights that guide traffic.(to go,slow down, and to stop.)

Where are the stop lights and stop signs pre-ven-tions,of dangers on the roads,in treasure b.?

I am just asking. Where do they start from,com-par-ing to Negril?

Maybe it's just me but I hope we never have enough traffic in Treasure Beach to warrant traffic lights.

I just got back home from Jamaica where along with my wife and daughter we spent a wonderful 21 days driving from Kingston through the north coast and unto Treasure Beach (place of my birth)and I must say that not being back in over 27 years I was truly amazed by the positive changes that have taken place and those who are involved should be congratulated. Now,about the roads, they are awful, especially from Mo Bay to Treasure Beach where the pot holes are big enough to swallow a small car. As for traffic lights in Treasure Beach, I say no way. I maybe the only one who care's but I was sorry not to see SINNERS BENCH, what became of it?

'danger zone' I read your piece and nearly choked on my coffee. Stop lights in Treasure Beach? What for? That's the beauty of the place! {edited by TBNet}

Less lights and noise and more sky viewing.

Danger Zone you made a good point with your comment. Protecting the citizens of Treasure Beach does not mean installing stop lights only. Traffic calming devices cover more than that. Firstly there should be flashing lights marking a school zone with an enforced speed limit (15-20 MPH, half hour before start and half hour after dismissal) starting above the post office and ending below the ice factory. Secondly there should be pedestrian crossings at designated spots and thirdly speeds bumps when the roads are repaired. I don't see the day when TB will require traffic signals(stop lights) but there are several other was we can use traffic calming techniques to protect our citizens.

I sorta feel that, if you have any sense at all a road with potholes should signal "slow down" and what is a speed bump, but a long pothole turned upside down? sometimes I fear that roads getting fixed mean people go faster, and are less careful. I agree that flashing lights at schools are a good idea. But streetlights. please no. In many parts of the US children grow up NEVER seeing the beautiful and inspiring stars in the night sky. and I suspect that is not good for their souls. Much is made of air and other environmental pollutants, but the idea of "light polution" is gaining, as for example, it is learned that women who work nights have a higher rate of breast cancer. nature knows best.

Good points, pedestrians are the first consideration on our roads, theoretically.

Personally, I like the slow drive through Treasure Beach and frequently boast to my friends that where I live there are no stop signs, traffic lights or street lamps. However, there are serious issues with the drivers who speed through the town in cars and motorcycles putting the pedestrians and animals on the road at great risk. Even a pothole dosn't slow them down.

Sidewalks is what we should be talking about here. The first thing is better roads, then sidewalks, then eventually we may need stop lights. NOT NOW.

Dear jeanie and tom,

My grand mother raised 10 children. 8 of the children to my under-standing,grew up to be big men and women, some with grand and great grand children, now.
My Grand-mother many of nights, stayed up late quite regularly. one, two, 2 thirty a.m., waiting for her husband to bring food to feed her family.
When My grand-mother passed away,i believed she was in her 80's,early 90's.
My dearly beloved grand-mother had a stroke and it took her off her feet.
All those late nights burning the mid-night lamp oil, my grand-ma never died of Breast cancer.

Those scientific tests are in-correct, where my grand-ma is concerned.

My grand-mother, born and raised IN Jamaica. She had to much of Jamaica's carbo-hy-drates IN HER BLOOD. Bam-my, Dash-ene, etc; Ask the more mature people in Jamaica what those foods are, if YOU do not al-ready know.

I personally know women who worked the night shift and they do not have any breast cancer. Thank god for that.
