The loss of the ATM from Crossroads created a situation where in order to use an ATM you must travel to Black River or Junction. It would be an advantage to the area and provide a needed service for all people. In conversations with visitors and locals , the message was the same. The area of Treasure Beach would benefit from a ATM.
I agree. I loved having an ATM at Crossroads. There is, or was, an ATM in TB but it was for Jamaican accounts only as I recall.
There is an ATM in Southfield as well.
Will this ATM take all cards ?
I couldn't agree more
southfield is usually out of money. the most you can get is 15000 if you are very lucky.
Thank you. So, my problem still exists. What can be done to place an ATM in Treasure Beach ? As a resident told me, making it easier to get money in Treasure Beach means more money spent in our area. I tend to agree.
I'm a little bummed because my local AAA office no longer sells travelers checks. Now if I want them my bank has to order them and they charge for that.
Sigh.
I am sorry about your problem, however I would like to return to my question about an ATM in Treasure Beach. I realize not every business is ready to accept the responsibility of having it on site.Could it work like Western Union sites or be part of them.
I totally agree that more money would be spent if there are a local ATM. There were many times that I simply didn't have money to spend because I couldn't get to an ATM.
There is an ATM at Kingfisher plaza, or was, but it wasn't linked up to international networks. Is that still the case? If so, any reason why it can't be?
The ATM at Kingfisher Plaza is run by a local bank which does not offer credit cards which can be used internationally., so it will only issue cash to cards from local banks. I disagree with the local who says the ATM at Southfield is often out of cash. I use it often with no problem. If it happens to be empty it is a short drive to Junction. Taxis are cheap and readily available if you have no car.
I realize that the Southfield ATM can be an option and then even Junction, however if you are a visitor and are not familiar with the use of cabs it still creates a problem. I still believe a ATM in Treasure Beach would help all.
I completely agree - if Treasure Beach had a reliable ATM people would spend more money. We usually don't spend much because we don't have a car and cash is hard to come by.
Ohliz - I opened up an account at a credit union - I use it strictly for travel funds so if atm card is ever stolen it is not associated with my main bank account. Anyway, they provide travelers checks free of charge.
Scotiabank and NBC, shame on you for not providing money By ATM in Treasure Beach. Your customers should be worth it. Going to Junction or Black River is the only way. Of course residents and visitors would SPEND more if they could get hold of their money.
Thanks Rumghoul. I keep a AAA membership for the same reason but just learned they discontinued paper travelers checks. They want to give a travel card now...useless in TB or anywhere that doesn't take credit cards.
I do agree that an ATM somewhere IN TB would be an asset to visitors and residents and frankly, the bank too, since most charge a fee to use an ATM.
Even one of the retail ATMs that I've seen in hotel lobbies with super high fees of like $8US would be better than nothing.
Excuse me but I would prefer so much to see a new ambulance on the road of Treasure Beach than a ATM at the moment !! Just wanted to express my opinion about it...and act for it. Bless you
Please, do not think I am down playing the important needs of the community. Yes, an ambulance is definitely a priority especially for all residences of Treasure Beach and area. I guess it is like the roads also. The community has needs and I do not want to sound like my need should be above those. Change comes on a slow road. However, one must try.
there is already a thread about the ambulance

I am glad that the ambulance is being looked after because it is so much needed. Treasure Beach really seems to be looking at its priorities. Now, there is discussion about the roads and how they need to be fixed for safety reasons and to also allow businesses in the area to benefit. My point about the ATM might seem a small one in comparison to the the above needs. However, having proper banking in the Treasure Beach area will benefit everyone . It really needs to happen.
Did you know there used to be a Bank in Treasure Beach? I was able to do all my banking there when I visited. There was no need to travel to Black River or Southfield. Now that was convenience at its best, but they took that away too. The owner of the NCB Bank has visited Treasure Beach in the past, may be villa operators should be writing to him directly and ask for a sub branch for the area.
I am hearing that there has been a movement over the last year to get an ATM in the Treasure Beach area. Individuals have been pressing the Bank of Nova Scotia to look at establishing a site. To those who are working on this --thank you. Hopefully, your efforts will be rewarded.
