Here is coverage that ran on TVJ last night on the very poor road conditions in Treasure Beach, especially the portion below Smurfs. MP Hugh Bucahnan acknowledges this, but it sounds as if laying water pipes is the first priority and then the road situation might be addressed after that--and the money needs to come from the Tourism Enhancement Fund. My interpretation of what he says is it is at least a two-year project, and it is uncertain if funds can be found.

What do you think about the situation?

Yes the roads are terrible, but it is still well worth the hassle to get to TB and experience the Positive Vibrations and beauty of TB !!!!
Of course I only speak as a tourist. If I was a local, I would be mad and upset that the roads are not repaired !!
ONE LOVE !!
Mike

I wrote about the problem two weeks ago, and only three people responded. I got the impression that nobody cared, people accepting it as if we don't deserve better.

Look at the road from Frenchman through Bluntas to Newcomb Valley. look at the Great Bay road, never been fixed from my father was a boy. Look at the road from Pedro Cross to Billy's Bay,and beyond.
Private citizen like Lloyd Gordon, used his own money to fix pot holes with cement&marl [edited by TBNet]

After listening to Hugh Buchanan interview, I have no more hope that the roads will be fixed any time soon.Love my Treasure Beach and hoping for better roads! Soon to be the best Sports Park in Jamaica and no roads to get there.

Many thanks to the MP from North West St Elizabeth for the patching of the Burnt Savannah road, from Knoxwoods to Lacovia. Great job sir.
I would also take this opportunity to condemn the condition of the road from Watchwell through Mountainside to Knoxwoods. Disgraceful!

We need the ambulance! and we need nets to protect people when the new soccer game is being played at the Sports Park! I almost lost my eyes when the ball was kicked out! lets protect the fans. No ambulance No nets... Lord have mercy!..

The roads are bad i agree, but think about this, with all the over taking and fast driving that goes on,maybe it is better to leave the roads as is.Think of all the lives that may have been saved.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about who should pay for all the things that people want. I am saying this because it's not about a "vote" over things like an ATM being more important than an ambulance.

* The roads are the responsibility of the Government. It is clear the Jamaican Government has little money because they don't spend "enough" on roads, infrastructure, schools, and other things that should be called necessities. Because Treasure Beach is considered a tourist area, the feeling is that the Government should place a priority on roads in the community. No matter how wonderful it is when people arrive, there are a lot of tourists who would rather not deal with the road situation and go elsewhere. There are also taxi drivers and others vehicle operators who complain bitterly because the poor condition of the roads causes damage to their vehicles. Because the Government doesn't seem ready to spend money to fix the roads in Treasure Beach, there is the possibility that money can be found in the Tourism Enhancement Fund for the roads.

* The ambulance has nothing to do with the Government. It is paid for and operated by BREDS. They get money to do this from donations (and from sometimes charging to the use of the ambulance). If people wish to support this fine cause and get another ambulance on the road, they can get their donations to BREDS via TB.net.

* ATMs are run by banks. Banks exist to make a profit, not as a public service. If no banks wish to maintain an ATM in or near Treasure Beach, that is because they have decided that they cannot make a profit by doing so.

* If anyone has a problem with how the Sports Park is run, they should contact BREDS. (I am referring to such complaints as what one person suggested is a lack of protection for spectators.) I can tell you that in America if a fan is injured during a baseball game, it is the responsibility of the spectator because when you view such an activity you know you are taking a risk.

I get it about the responsibility of the fans! if you are watching a base ball game in North America. I understand the game and I know the risk. When you are standing at the Sports Park bar watching a new Foot ball game being played on hard court, and almost lost your eyes then I guess it would be in my best interest to stay away AMEN. I wish the Sports Park all the success but if you know better you do better.

If the government is responsible than it should be fixed...tourist community or not. One travels through many non tourist communities to get to TB and the roads are deadly. Here or there welcome to government and reality. Has anyone been to the South in the US recently? Has anyone seen NY and NJ roads recently. Join the club. US citizen
