As many of you are seeing a great deal of precipitation in various forms these last few months I thought I would share these photos with you.
Treasure Beach as well as many other parts of Jamaica are suffering from drought conditions. This is not unusual for this time of year and this is not the first time that Great Pond has dried up, but it has been a while and we really are looking up to the skies every day for rain!
Let's pray for those April showers!
Wow!! Really does put things into perspective.
Double Wow! My bald friend Robert is there now walking the streets drinking and yapping. If you see him ask and he will do his rain dance for all of you!!
Just saw him but will see him again and will ask him. Hope it works!
It looks like the Dessert
We are the dessert coast of Jamaica.
Rebecca A picture of Robert doing his rain dance would be priceless!! Thanks
I hear you got rain last night. God Bless.
We got about 4 drops last night but as I type it has been raining a nice solid rain for about 4 minutes!!!! Let's hope it lasts for a good while!
Had about 40 minutes of rain last night. Just enough to keep the dust down but not enough for a good soaking. But we are grateful and being careful for what we ask for . . .
Any rain is better than none. The bald rain man is still there ready to dance.Happy Easter to all at Treasure Tours and all of the wonderful people of Treasure Beach. My favorite place to visit and I will be back!
hi Rebecca, jeff did his rain dance before leaving on wednesday morning. glad it brought a few drops. keep the hope alive. be well, good to all.
I took a television camera over to the pond earlier this week.
Look out for the story next week.
When i was a child, growing up in t.beach. i heard about the golden table,in the great pond.People was declaring that they saw it and how lovely it is,or was. this table was not like your grand father kitchen table.this unique table was made of gold.(it was called the golden table > in great pond ask the more mature treasure beach people,if they remember it.i do not know if fisher-men ever went in their boats to seek it,years ago, when the pond was covered with water. what i heard was,it came up certain times and present it-self. then,go back down.(i guess it operates like a volcanoe-explode and then,go back down to normal.)the reflection that came from the golden table, must have/had left quite an impression in the minds of those who saw it.(one, two,or even three people could tell that lie.but, four and up in numbers-some one would spill the beans for truth. what do you say? the earth is full of minerals and resources.(are you married? look at your wedding ring and see if gold, razzle-dazzle your eyes.if not, please, take back that cheap imitation and run fast, very fast to the real gold mine, that is waiting for you.) now that great pond is dry,all you neighbors, can get hand-held devices from america and go search that dry soil in great pond, for that golden table and other money making substances. happy-hunting,every one.
when you dis-cover gold, platinum, silver, rubies, diamonds, etc; please, remember the little (me) who inspired you.
gra-cious, thank you, merci'beau-coup
your back yard is a gold mine,if you will seek it tenderly and follow the instructions, with your sensitive heart, your eating plate and cup,
will never be empty.
sharing is caring. until then..tc
What a story!!! I too have heard about the golden table in the Great Pond but if my memory serves me well, it was the Great Pond in the district of Parottee, not the one in Treasure Beach. It was actually a fable so I would not take this story too seriously although it is quite possible that precious minerals might be somewhere in Treasure Beach.
I've heard this story but not about Great Pond. I was always told the golden table was in the pond in Pondside.
Oh that story of 'On Golden Pond" (skeptics might say it may have something to do with our glorious sunsets ripping across the water's surface)...sounds also like a retirement dream of Paradise where you gather, with your fellow travelers around a golden table for a final Rest.
Reminds a bit of that parody song from the Wobblies (the Industrial Worker's of the World...an "anarchist" organization in the early 1950's US labour movements):
Long-haired preachers come out every night,
Try to tell you what's wrong and what's right;
But when asked how 'bout something to eat
They will answer with voices so sweet:
CHORUS:
You will eat, bye and bye,
In that glorious land above the sky;
Work and pray, live on hay,
You'll get pie in the sky when you die.
Or as Jimmy Cliff (as Ivan) declares in The Harder They Come:
Well, they tell me of a pie up in the sky
Waiting for me when I die
But between the day you're born and when you die
They never seem to hear even your cry...

I've just received a call from Earl Moxam saying a his story featuring Great Pond will be aired on TVJ's Prime Time News this evening at 7:00 p.m.
You can watch it via live stream on the TVJ website.
Sorry, Correction, for what it's worth. Re: the "Wobblies" being an early 1900's (not 1950's) labour movement...typing too fast w/o proofing.
The shaky point was not to rely on, or put too much credence, for pie in the sky (or in the pond) bye & bye.
when the british government years ago wanted to conquer jamaica as its own.they send in their soldiers to kill and drove out the spaniards who were living there at that time.(some people believe that jamaica belongs to england due to the british rule and how jamaica was govern through the years.)jamaica have it's own independency to rule it self now and is about to become a re-public,from my under-standing.home grown politicians, are pushing to make that happen.(fellow jamaicans who was born demo-cratic,will have to live and die re-publican(s).)
any way, when the spaniards flee jamaica, some went to portugal, spain, and other countries for refuge.(years ago in newell secondary school, under senior principal chedda leader-ship,spanish was taught as a language.)
cuba is jamaicas nearest neighbor who speak spanish.(are you interested to visit-90 miles.raoul castro will be honoured to have a neighboring jamaican(s) in his presence.)
when the spaniards leave jamaica, they had to leave everything that they posess. up at old-wharf,i personally saw large steel cooking pots buried in the sand, years ago. other steel merchandise, gold, silver, you name it,may be still buried in the sand, waiting for you to come explore. ( i have heard of people who saw gold in one specific well, close to the calabash-bay sea-side.the owner and zimroy james, who now has left us,due to death, tried to get it out of the well and had no success. i guess the weight of gold,is not only shiny, but heavy.
your back yard is a gold mine,if you will seek it tenderly and follow the instructions with your sensitive heart, your eating plate and drinking cup will never be empty.

thanks Rebecca, sure hope your getting some good rain !!
Not yet but we are hoping April showers will soon come!
we startin we be sorry that we pray to God he not flood our likkle newborn house by the great pond.
We were reflecting on the legend of the Golden Table.
Neither the Spanish not the English would have had such a table, unless an old pirate nailed his dubloons to a table top.
Out Taino would have had tables of highly polished hard woods, sometimes inlaid with shell and gold.
Was such a table hidden in a blue hole or such?
Like entrances to ritual caves, verbal warnings and inscribed/drawn 'keep outs' helped keep the space or object secure. Not even an oxe and chain could pull it out!
Welcome back Turey. We missed you!!
that is the whole idea. bury the gold until the right-ful owner can move it to safety. let us be truth-ful. how many people will walk past $10. and not pick it up. if $10. leads us to be greedy.what will one legitimate gold bar, from fort knox, do?
next time when the sea gets rough and stir-up the ocean belly, sand and sea-moss, etc and bring it to the shore(s),take a long walk on the sand, and you may discover golden treasures on the beach, from the ti-tanic.
surprise! surprise!
if you doubt it,you will not have it.
Turey! Yay!
Can't stay away from my home forum too long.
Thanks for this Good Memory:
"..your back yard is a gold mine,if you will seek it tenderly and follow the instructions with your sensitive heart, your eating plate and drinking cup will never be empty"
When this comes from Gordon House, then we are heading towards independence and self sufficiency.
The abused soil, our treasure.
That is correct Rebecca, that story is about pondside...not great pond..
i have tried to get tvj web-site and other jamaica on-line station,so i may get jamaica's news.(example,rjr.)what must i do to get them?
can any one help!!! thank you!
the thing is,if any one goes looking for the golden table,at pond-side and get stuck in the quick sand,(mud)will any one hear you and be able to get you out. comparing to great pond. if you go in great pond and scream out for help, some fisher-men at great bay,or sandy bank,or the calabash bay area, will hear and come to your rescue with their boat.(hoping it is not on a monday, wednesday,or friday when those men goes to catch their fish.)
people who visit(s)and lives at old-wharf,close to the pond, will even hear and come to rescue you.(do not forget to give them a re-ward,after.)

what happened to JBC communications?.. (broadcasting system)
If my memory serves me correctly,JBC used to be both RADIO and TELE-VISION in Jamaica. RJR IS still in business. But, what happened to JBC? RJR"s com-pet-i-tor.
Any one has any INFORMATION about JBC communications services, PLEASE, post it. I hope I may get to read it. Thank YOU VERY MUCH:
I had the opportunity to watch Black and white cow-boys movies, years ago, on tv in Jamaica and I believed it was ON JBC tv signal(s). My intro-duc-tion to tele-vision.
IS there any water in great pond from the recent rain
I do not know if any water settled back in as yet. The last thing i saw,was the pictures of the great-pond,on this web-site.
As you know,it will take days of very hard rain to fill it up again.
Pray for medium rain fall.Because, the Farmers who do plant-a-tion,will suffer with their crops. Also, Roads and homes could be washed out & away.
I meant to take my camera with me today to take a photo but forgot. I will try to remember tomorrow.
There was some water back in the pond for a few weeks but it is almost all gone again. We had a few good showers but for the last week or so nothing again.
Ready for more . . . but not too much!
Sorry for the delay. This photo was taken on Tuesday. We had a drop of rain a few evenings this week but not enough to make any difference in the pond.
To 'Wondering...'
JBC Television and JBC Radio Two were sold by the Jamaican Government to RJR in 1997. The television station now operates as Television Jamaica (TVJ) and JBC Radio Two now operates as Hitz 92FM, also as part of the RJR Communications Group.
The old JBC Radio One, wich was the main radio competitor to RJR, was shut down. It's broadcast frequency was eventually leased to Nationwide News Network, which operates a radio station, focusing mainly on news and discussion programmes.
The Government of Jamaica eventually re-established a public interest television service, a cable station, which operates as Public Broadcasting Company of Jamaica (PBCJ).
Hope that helps!
Dearest Earl,
I hope every-thing IS GOING WELL WITH YOU,since this post.
Quite interesting how things CHANGES thru.the years.(the bad,the ugly, the GOOD does not stay the same. It IS intended to change.)We have to LEARN to adjust our-selves.
It IS VERY GOOD to hear and see YOU settled in YOUR career and doing excellent journalism-congrat-U-lation(s).) Those EVENINGS after regular class at Sandy Bank school-leading up to common entrance studies and passing those test with YOUR DEDICATION, IS NOW TIME for YOUR HARVEST:< (Blessings ON YOU!)
I now live in Canada, but I sure would like to see YOU (most likely)ON Ja's SOIL. You may,or may not remember me,because i was in 1,or 2 grade class(es) before you, when i was attending S.B. Primary school.
I do not recall in my memory bank, ever seeing YOU played cricket. Now,i know why?
YOU Earl, was too busy in those BOOKS PAGES.
About 1,or 2 summers ago,2011-2012 year(s),after visiting my mother's residence-she was helping me to carry some things to my home, because i could not carry every-thing.After 1 bus and 1 train- we were waiting for a 2nd train to our final driving destination....While waiting, my mother said something to me.(i did not hear what she said, honestly.) After her words,i heard hi,how are you? My mother was speech-less,so was I.
My mother came back to her mental self and gave the person a warm embrace. She ask, what are you doing here? The conver-sation began. When i turned around-mentally,i recognized who it was,but bumb-founded.
The person told my mother and me that, they re-cognized my mother"s voice, when she had said some thing to me and i did not hear, honestly.
It was YOUR OLDEST,big BROTHER and his sweet-heart.They were waiting for the same train as we.
Both of us were going east bound, from Toronto city. We talked before and on the train before my mother and i got off at our stop.
It was surprising to see your brother remembered me and my mom.We certainly remembered him.
He asked me if you and me were class mates.I told him no,your brother named started with D. was in the same class as I. He told me he would tell D.that he saw me.
I wrote quite a long story here for you,but it got cut off. It was about YOUR MOTHER and mine.It surely would make you and all the other readers laugh OUT loud. The story builds up from my mother's young girl-hood days,up to 2011 - 2012 years.
I am sorry, the story i wrote almost came to a close and it was erased.
All after-noon i stand and typed this hiliarious, affectionate mother and daughter true story, that occured between these 2 ladies.
My mother told me that YOUR MOTHER liked her and treated her very well. Now,that cause my mother to be daughter,to mother with great affection.
I wish i could continue but i had nothing to eat all day and it is now 8:50pm. Almost bed time as well.
Earl, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the INFO about JBC. I tried what i know, how to get it and could not.I am glad YOU STAND IN THE GAP for my benefit.
Maybe in the future,my excellent story will be told, about YOUR MOTHER and mine.
Take Excellent CARE of YOUR=SELF Earl.
Keep sending out THE STANDARD in Jamaican Journalism. When any one ASK YOU,where are you from, tell them to take a GUESS.
Earl, UNTIL then.
Hey, 'Wondering...'
It was a pleasure to read your kind words, but why keep me wondering who it is? :-)
I did play a bit of cricket and have a few injuries to show for it, but it is probably true to say that I played less than most of the other guys did at school! To this day it is my favourite sport though, as most persons who know me will attest.
All the very best to you and your Mom and perhaps one day I will indeed hear that story.
HAPPY Greetings again to YOU,Earl: I hope YOU and ALL YOUR FAMILIES,ARE IN EXCELLENT HEALTH.
I pre-sumed that YOU Earl, was waiting patiently to get a response from me. I have been away from this site a little while. I am coming through some medical occurences in my physical life at this time. Also, death amongst my blood-lines.(relatives). And others with serious in-ternal conditions.
Never the less,WE have to KEEP MOVING FOR-WARD,or we will remain stag-nant,as YOU know.
As YOU KNOW,being too personal on this site is not a wise idea. So,if YOU got a personal e-mail,and feel comfortable sharing it here, where I can get it to contact YOU,that would be great. When I come back here next time,I will make a connection.
It is NOW 3:35am Thursday Morn. Take GOOD CARE,Earl. Until then.
