great topic...one that needs great consideration. i am happy to see degradable trash bags throughout the district. how does a community instill this type of education? perhaps the fisherman board could have video education nights?

Quite a moving film.Should show it in the schools as part of their environmental awareness education. It says it all and is far more powerful than a teacher standing in front of a class and giving a lecture.

This has brought me to tears. Please watch it. It takes less than four minutes. It pains me to know that Treasure Beach may be next to an ocean of grief. I urge this to be shown to every child in every school in and near Treasure Beach. I urge anyone with a computer to share this with their relatives and friends and neighbors.

I hope the strings having to do with the environment meaning this one and the one on Styrofoam continue until something is done. I have been going to TB for years and I read this Forum enough to know what happens is:

# There are one or more beach clean up days and people get enthusiastic and things are picked up. Then people get sloppy for months until someone else comes and picks up their trash because they were too lazy or didn't even care.

#Talk talk talk about recycling but plastic bottles are still everywhere. Restaurants still use that gross Styrofoam because no one has the guts to boycott places that contribute to the environment going downhill. If we ALL boycott them the restaurants would be FORCED to change.

Dear Keeping the String Going,

I am doing my bit to keep this string going because I couldn't agree with you more. It's probably unrealistic to think we could have a boycott of restaurants that SERVE in Styrofoam and other things that are not biodegradable but I assure you I will personally get up and leave any such establishment. I am also sick of the beach cleanup days not because of all the wonderful people who volunteer their time and energy but because I am sick of people who can't be bothered to clean up after themselves.

From a Fan

Me too. Before I order I will look around to see what other patrons are eating from. If I see anything that isn't washable or biodegradable, I'm out of there and on to another place.

Love this idea. We don't eat out all that much when we are there, but the list of places we go to might become shorter.

Let's do something together to make a change. Every person who cares can help.

I would like o point out that most of the garbage on the beach comes from boats. I walk the beach every morning and evening when I am there, There is no one on the beach, but after a storm the shore has plastic, in all shapes and sizes, along with any assortment of sandles, single shoes, rope chunks of styrofoam etc. These articles come from the sea, NOT from people just walking around littering.,
I have noticed a great improvement over the years, in that there are now Garbage cans accesible on the beach, recycling bin at Sandy Bank, AND some wonderful locals and visitors, that pick up garbage on the beach on a daily bases. Boat operators should be held responsible for the garbage on their boats. The video is a great teaching tool. Thanks to everyone who cares.

Garbage on the beach comes from boats isnt a fair statement.

The sea washes up things that enter it from gullies and rivers all over the world.

No one should litter, but I wouldnt blame just the boats for beach trash.
