What are food prices in TB these days? We like to do some of our own meals as a cost saving measure, even though the restaurants are the best!!!
Hi Featsman,
I have a receipt from November from 21st Century Supermarket at Pedro Cross, known locally as "Crossroads":
3 lbs rice: 105.72 JA
2 lbs cornmeal: 85.96 JA
3 lbs flour: 129.63 JA
1 can sardines: 142.12 JA
1 dozen eggs: 236.64 JA
1 loaf Holsum white bread: 237.29 JA
3 small green (aka sweet) pepper: 153.22 JA
1 Grace ketchup: 100.50 JA
1 vegetable oil: 345.54 JA
*These aren't on the list, but I recall Grace baked beans around 100 JA and their Mixed Veg around 200 JA. And 1 Best Dressed Chicken ~750 JA
If you eat lots of veggies (like I do), be prepared to pay. For ~1000 JA you can get about 5 days worth of pumpkin, green banana, yam, "irish" (potato), bundle of scallion and callaloo. This will feed 2 people.
Have a nice time! Hope you know how to cook all of the above...if not, you can easily meet a local to teach you local flavor
Bless
Whatever the price it is still going to be cheaper than restaurants. Enjoy some home cooking........enjoy shopping the markets, enjoy the wonder of finding some food to eat as you walk along and see a vegie van or go down the beach or................simply enjoy.
Stop at Robert's produce stand on the road into or out of, Treasure Beach for fresh, local produce at very reasonable prices. He is located just past the church and generally open 7 days a week.
Thanks everyone for your input. Soon come!!!
