Of particular local interest to Treasure Beach-ites:

• The family of late film director and producer Perry Henzell was kept busy during the year. In addition to celebrating the 40th anniversary of Henzell's seminal film The Harder They Come, his daughter Justine took on One People, a documentary to celebrate Jamaica's 50th anniversary of independence from Britain.

• The literary community also saw the revival of the Calabash Literary Festival after a one-year hiatus, as well as the launch of the autobiography by stage and screen goddess Leonie Forbes.

Calabash Fest Contributing Poet, Natasha Trethewey, has been named the US Poet Laureate...
Trethewey Regarding Geography & A Sense of Place:

I think of Heraclitus’s axiom [that] geography is fate. And being born to the particular geography ... also at a particular historical moment. I can’t imagine that I could be anything but the thinker and poet that I am.
(It was the Greek philosopher, Heraclitus, who observed that "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he's not the same person."...sounds a bit like Rasta reasoning!)
