A Change in What Will Be Approved

Treasure Beach Forum: TB Runnin's: A Change in What Will Be Approved

Hello to our web visitors.

We've decided to refocus this forum on topics that relate directly to the community of Treasure Beach and the island of Jamaica specifically. We simply don't have time to moderate conversations on everything under the sun.

As an example of what we're talking about, we're going to use two messages:
"OBSERVER: "New Homes Go JPS Free is a great example of relevant information for our readers.

Planting Your "Victory Garden" for Survival is not relevant, regardless of how interesting the information is and would not be approved.

We understand that some people will miss these far reaching topics. To them we suggest searching out existing internet blogs or starting their own.

Hi Rebecca, while I understand your need to discriminate which threads to moderate and which ones to toss altogether, is there a way to allow for posts of relevant information (ie Planting Your "Victory Garden" for Survival) without that post creating a thread? For instance, TBNet would have the choice to approve or reject, and if approved and posted, then there would be no "Add a Message" section...it would be more of an FYI. Thoughts?

Concerned, we talked about that idea as well, but finally realized that we only have so much time to devote to this site and decided that it would be best spent on matters directly linked to TB and Jamaica.

We've added a new guideline to cover this change. It's pretty straightforward:
Posts must be relevant to Treasure Beach or Jamaica and its residents and visitors. The moderators will determine relevancy.

Here's a list of all the guidelines

Don't disagree with your new guidelines but it's serving to make this site have almost no new content.

'Need new posts' I respectfully must disagree.I feel, as do many, that the time has come to get back to why this site was created in the first place. It has been noted by many that they no longer post due to the ongoing "stuff" that has been posted in the past. I feel the updated guidelines will increase visitor participation. Time will tell, but my guess is there will be as many, if not more posts, but of more REAL interest. And I think the content will be of more interest. Will less people visit or write here? Maybe. But I would rather have 10 golden messages than 187 blah blah..

I favour the new guideline too. I think of it as reasoning with a local in Treasure Beach versus arguing with a higgler in Negril.

As a village representing a fairly stable contingent of families with values geared towards peaceful resolutions, Treasure Beach, never-the-less is exposed to a myriad of outside influences.
There are too many satellite dishes, international social network links, research sources to avoid means of shoring up information that will seep into our consciousness and even our souls.

It may take a village, such as ours, to raise a child, but what & where is that village? Is it parochial with inbred squabbles? Does it aim to take the most appropriately adaptable and sustainable means of survival and progress for all into consideration? How to deal with "alien" concepts of clashing moral values, which in the more highly industrialized societies create frictions, hostilities and division?

Is Treasure Beach and this Forum our respite for positivity, peace of mind, idealism of a peaceable kingdom, a tranquility earned from a beautiful, rugged land-seascape, and local folks seeming to imprint a character on all those who consciously wonder in, figure out a shared mutuality and breathe out generosity of means and spirit?

The point to all this jabbering is that, with all the influences of Jamaicans and Treasure Beachers going forth in the world and being exposed to multiple claims by others of "exceptional -sm", of protecting this society of toxic elements while upholding tolerance and diversity, is it too far-fetched to suggest that as we develop, we are the world and what we say, here, in this forum, can be specifically local yet influenced by the winds of change elsewhere?
There is nothing in the new guidelines (posts must be relevant to Treasure Beach or Jamaica and its residents and visitors) to prevent anyone from linking Jamaica-TB happenings to the larger scope, especially if you have been singed by the moderators' proper role, and are attuned to their absolute passion and predilections for up-lifting this community by all means necessary.

After much discussion, we've added another guideline for posting messages here intended to build up our online community

Posts that just contain negative language/ideas will not be approved. If they are backed up by facts or solutions and are not directed at a specific person or entity they will be considered. Too often someone posts an innocent question or idea and another person will follow up with a negative response, spoiling the original message. This has had the effect of making people not want to post here and is detrimental to our online community.

There is a list of all guidelines at the bottom of all pages next to the space where you enter your name and email address when posting.

Its been asked what Kye Nam's posts have to do with Treasure Beach/JA in regards to our new 'must be relevant' guideline.

The short answer is we have a long standing agreement with Kye Nam to post inspirational thoughts here and since they are a positive message we will continue to do so.
