The USA today News, did not have too much kind words to say about Jamaica on Wednesday. Saying things like we don't have good structured buildings but lots of shacks, shanty town houses and tin roofs and it dept riddled Island. Wish someone would tell them that not all of the houses are such, but many of us has good concrete homes much stronger than those in the US.I happen to own one in both countries and had to repair the roof there shortly after I bought it due to hurricane the shingles fell off,and the one in Jamaica is just fine.

I take it USA today News hasn't ventured to some of America's southern states where abject poverty and shacks are not an uncommon sight. It may be a first world country but it has it's fair share of shocking and distressing poverty. In a way the ones living in shacks are the lucky ones. Those families living in tent city and under bridges where they are constantly on the move would fare far worse even in the face of a category 1 hurricane.
