I think that is a good, authentic contribution that spells out the Jamaican reality. But, which way do we go? I suggest pulling together is a better way than the selfish means practiced by many people in positions of leadership.The "show" about education and civility will have to be seriously addressed. I hope for the best.

Sadly I agree with the article.

One of the things I feel can be done is an attempt to change our attitude when it comes to respecting our fellow citizens in both the commercial and public sectors. Too many times you go to a government office to transact business, and the lack of urgency there is enough to stifle anyone. I'm talking about the "soon come" attitude. I believe that that is a major reason why Jamaica, being so close to North America, receives so little investment from the multinationals to our north. This attitude is refelected in almost every facet of our society. Try waiting to be served next time you go to any restaurant. Don't hold your breath even though the food is just waiting to be dished out.

I don't think it's a stretch for me to propose that we add something to the curriculum in primary school to let future generations know how essential this attitudinal shift could be to the betterment of our country.

In response to observa, I agree with every thing you said. Dont try going to tax office during the lunch hours...LOL.

as for your last paragraph, I was watching Rock Center with Brian Williams recently and a school they featured in one of the segments has now developed and implemented a system where students no longer only get graded by there GPA (GRADE POINT AVERAGE), but they now also get graded by CPA (CHARACTER POINT AVERAGE)building character is now part of the curriculum and guess what the kids absolutely love it.

We need this blue print for all of Jamaica.

Those that offer quality service and can reflect on unwilling servitute without mixing up the two will flourish.

All concious and aware jamacians will know that,our country is in a predicament,our leaders had made some decisions in the past,that we are now paying for(Borrowing from the IMF) There is a saying in jamaica that goes like this,if you put a fool in a mortar and beat him with a pestle he/she comes out the same fool.Meaning the underdevelop vocabulary dosent cahnge.For jamaica to be more successful there has to be more accountable local authority in the rural parishes.The proper development of communities with governmental structure,is seen by many to be a much needed and urgent necessity.Iam hoping someone in government reads this and act on it."Out of many one people",jah rasta,fari.One love.

Big Up! It's about time!

{edited BY TBNet}
It used to be that the people run things. Now cops are the ones who take advantage of our trust. We need to run them like the olden days!

Also if Jamaicans are so smart why don't we be pioneers and leaders in the medical and industrial uses of ganja! States in USA and many other countries legalize industrial hemp, medical marijuana, and decriminalize small personal use amounts.
