Regional Sports As Educational-Cultural-Touristic-Economic Stimulus?
Regarding the efforts of "local and international agencies "... collaborating to host the Jamaica Soccer Cup Tournament in Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth, between August and July 2013... Executive director of the Jamaica Soccer Cup Tournament, Jason Henzell, said that although residents had not yet been fully sensitised, they were aware and supportive of the overall sports tourism strategy."
Henzell said the spin-off effect would be the generation of income in the parish for transport operators, educational institutions that would be used as dormitories, hotels, restaurants, and attractions.
He added that the initiative is part of the strategy to "move the annual occupancy from 25 per cent to 50 per cent in the next five years within the Greater Treasure Beach area".

The assumption, here, is that Breds has or will keep the community "in the loop" about these unfolding developments...no hush-hush.
As an accommodations owner I have been told nothing by Breds. I have been asked nothing by Breds. Nothing.
Have you tried to contact BREDS to let them know you would like to participate?
Usually, one has to pursue opportunities to increase their business. Not often does it just get dropped in your lap.
I agree with asking BREDS to keep the community in the loop of information with issues that will affect the community. But if you are an individual business and are interested in cashing in on the business opportunities the Sports Park may have then I suggest you contact them and don't wait for them to contact you. The 'early bird' and all.
Is desensitisation the right word but the wrong method Mr Ward?

You call it "early bird"; I would say the chickens are coming home to roost. Yes, the prophesy is being fulfilled!
This sounds better than the original intention of the sports park which seemed overly ambitious and not in keeping with the character and resources of the community. Better we have sports tournaments for youth than late night concerts.
My guess is you may be a villa owner that rents by the week. If this is true you might be out of the loop because people coming to the area for matches will not be staying for a full week and are probably looking for lower priced places to stay. I would guess the places that will benefit the most would be places like Sunset and Treasure Beach Hotel and the more moderate priced places. I would guess Jakes would get in on the action because Jason is the main organizer. The small restaurants and pizza places should also benefit.
Now,that WE KNOW,let US SPREAD the Gossip Around.
I WISH ALL Participants IN the Games,Good Health,-
Energy)ALL Good Attitude-with-out any fight(s).A time for Reaping, for Business. And THEY will also Plant Back INTO the community. Remember..Dry Soap cannot Wash Your Hands,YOU NEED to Wet IT.
Wishing ALL Visitors and Regulars,in AdVance,a Heart FULL of ExCitement and a WHALE of a Time..
... JOY TO YOU,JaMaiCa ...
If the inexpensive guest houses and hotels are booked then there might be some extra rentals for villas from the people who can't get into the hotels. Merely a thought.
We appreciate all the accommodations and attractions which have now signed the agreement to host Jamaica Soccer Cup teams. Our hope is that while most of the youth teams and coaches will seek affordable places to stay, friends and family will also come on vacation and stay in the guesthouses, hotels, cottages and villas. Jamaica Soccer Cup will also open up opportunities for our local players to be scouted and offered scholarships. The itinerary allows for teams to visit local attractions and to engage in a community project. Thank you for supporting! Jason
Good to see you here Jason.
I second what Turey said.
Am delighted to see Mr. Henzell is writing here. He has been a missing voice and this is a most welcomed development.
Mr. Henzell, could you please tell us which accommodations and attractions have signed your agreement to host the teams. I would also like to get a rough idea of the schedule you envision.
Thank you in advance for your response, and I wish you the best.
What will the admission price to see the games be?
