Our family of 5 will be staying in your wonderful community in April. We would like to provide some service at a children's center/school while there. I understand the local TB women's organization has worked with "Our Lady of Hope Children's Home" in the past? I have also been told the home is no longer in Black River but in Mandeville? If anyone has some contact information or knows of some specific needs at any of the local children's homes or schools that we might help with, we would love the suggestions. And also a suggestion of how to get transportation to the homes/centers from TB.
Thank you in advance!
Call Treasure Tours for all your transportion needs. We were very happy with there services our last trip.
Hi Shannon,
every March VIJON (www.JamVijon.webs.com) hosts groups of college students who work with schools in and around Treasure Beach. For the last several years we have been building playgrounds for Basic Schools. If you are coming in early April you may be able to assist with one of our projects. The service is a combination of the playground project and classroom assistance. Often the volunteers will bring a craft project like T-shirts to paint etc for the students.
We presently have over 30 schools on our waiting list who need assistance, so every bit helps.
Thank you VIJON how could I found out more? We will be in TB from 3/31-4/6.
Hi Shannon,
you can check out our latest work on our Facebook Page which is updated more easily than our website.
VIJON Volunteer In Jamaica Opportunity Network is where to find us on facebook.
You can email your potential hours/days of availability and what you might be able to assist with to VIJON@mail.com
Looking forward to hearing from you.
If you click on 'Community Groups' on the top of this page, there will be a list of schools in the area and a 'how to help' link.
You could check that out.
