The nuisance starts early in Treasure Beach last weekend, while in preparation for the birds unslaught, they set ablaze their shooting ground which spreads to adjoining propereties causing severe property damage, and discomfort to the entire community.

It is my understanding they lit a fire to burn a pile of brush and the fire got away from them causing a great deal of damage.

We all need to be so careful in this very dry and very windy time with fires. My policy is just to wait until the rainy season.

This makes me sick. Kill birds. Light things on fire. What will these people do next.

Can anyone say whose property they were on, and whether they had permission? Still it may not matter as poor little property owner would have to confront men with big guns. What a world we live in!

Someone please tell me who the THEY was who started the fire. (edited by TBnet) Who pays for the severe property damage? I am sick of grown men going out and killing tiny birds for sport in our community.

Does anyone know if the property owners were reimbursed for damage even if it was not intentional.

We go through this same conversation every year. Bird hunting is legal. They made a mistake. Have you ever made a mistake? And 'student' don't go and blow things up that these men have guns so people should be afraid to confront them. Trust that they are probably a lot safer to approach than others who are carrying guns illegally. Let's not go through this 'please don't kill the little birdi'e stuff again..Spare us!

Correct. We go through this conversation year after year. We know bird hunting is legal even though some people do not like it.

I accept they made a mistake. When someone makes a mistake the correct thing to do is to take responsibility for their mistake (also known as an accident). What people are asking is if the birders took responsibility for the accidental damage they caused. That is all. This is not a discussion on not killing the little birdies.

One thing I am know it was not the Driftwood group. Norris Singh and his group are good people who have done alot for TB and it's environ. Birb shooting is a global sport and we could cry somemore that wont change a thing. I know of people from here that goes to Cuba and South America to shoot birds.

Ahem, a mistake is something you cannot fix. Errors can be fixed, not mistakes. Language have meaning.

I'm a little bit confused Tweetie, so help me out here: Are you saying that these men (and women?) don't have guns? How in the world do they shoot the birds?

If you need to do this. Please do it far from where people live.

And no, you will not be spared Tweetie. Because it's legal does not make it right.

When are they coming to kill the birds this year? We do not want to be there. We were scared the last time we came, they were shooting so near to where we stayed. Is this permitted?

I am saying they are not criminals carrying guns. they most likely use good safety practices with the guns. They are also professional people who work hard and the ones I have met do not do drugs or drink while with their gun.. I meant just because they are carrying a gun does not mean there should be a fear they are just going to turn around and shoot you. [edited by TB.Net] This thread is really humorous every year. Yes, let's continue the colonialist sport of bird shooting.

We agree, this argument has been discussed more than one time. Anyone wanting to seeing the past arguments can search out "Bird Shooters" in the forum.

Unless there is new information to pass on no more messages will be approved regarding the same argument.

The following is an article from the Observer stating the dates of the season. Whether we like it or not or feel it is right or wrong, it is legal. So unless someone is willing to start the process of challenging and/or changing the law just complaining about it will not do any good. http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/environment/Bird-shooting-season-opens-August-18_ 12051169

We may not be able to change the law today but, by changing hearts and minds, we can do so tomorrow. Please reconsider your decision to close this thread.

I agree with Student. Even if something is legal we can still have a chance to have it excluded from our community if the people participating sense they are not welcome by the majority of residents.

Student, part of the reason they choose to close this thread is the contiuning bashing of those who hunt birds. They are not bad people.I doubt if by keeping this thread open bird hunting will cease in TB or anywhere.
