Maybe a real power purge is needed Z. I recommend eating three large aloe vera leaves. Maybe then minds will clear up and ask why Cuba assembles solar cells while we manufacure childish squabbles.

Hey Butch, I'm watching for Appliance Traders to catch up.

Better to send jamaicans to cuba to learn the trade and implement it for jamaica!

Do the Cubans make the solar cells or assemble panels from imported material?

Storage, Not Generation, Is the Challenge to Renewable Energy

...an examination of where our energy comes from today shows that even after decades of improvement in renewable energy systems, more than 95% of the energy in the United States is still provided by fossil fuels, nuclear power and traditional hydropower. So, what is missing from the present picture that could dramatically advance the use of renewable energy? Economical energy storage.

If solar and wind power are to break out of their present tiny niche positions, they will need to achieve systems parity with traditional energy supplies. This means that the cost of conversion plus the cost of storage will have to be similar to the cost of providing energy on demand from the energy stored in chemical or nuclear fuels.

You can find some pretty shrill Internet rhetoric suggesting that the requirement for power on-demand (what the industry calls "baseload power") is an irrelevant argument concocted by "renewables deniers." But the reality is that many solar energy pioneers themselves say that solar power will be severely limited in market penetration, unless competent energy storage is developed.

Our present fixation with energy generation ignores the "time value of energy." Instead of concentrating all of our efforts on generation we need to pay increased attention to energy storage.
Only after the cost of generation and storage of renewable energy matches the cost of on-demand generation from fossil, nuclear and hydro we will we see a transformation of the energy industry.

Yes Z. For some, the value of energy independence is priceless, a term not included in current balance sheets.

Those that start their design from scratch now, are able to function on less wattage too. Energy efficient buildings and appliances.

turey...check out this ad from the German solar company, Solon, which may or may not have been eased out of the Renewables market by low production costs and "price gouging" (or trade/export-favouring positioning) by companies in the fast-rising East...Just love how European TV Ads grab your attention...Whoa! Batteries raining down from the sky...Priceless!

With THE Spooky Dude long absent from the Forum, in the interest of internal & external dialog, argument, skepticism to be raised and entertained, here's a piece discussing a new polemical book: Green Illusions: The Dirty Secrets of Clean Energy and the Future of Environmentalism..."takes on what (the author) considers the sacred cows of the green movement: solar power, wind power and electric vehicles, among others"
...Let's continue the chat at Dougie's Bar or cotching on dat fence ovah deh...rum-talk reasoning!
