Introducing two Folios of Photographs skirting the grounds and vibrations of the recent Calabash International Literary Festval.
The celebratory mood and the variety of writers, poets and performers of the spoken word, both locally and from distant quarters of the globe, fit in appropriately with Jamaica's reach beyond her 50th anniversary of Independence. What a launch for conscious storytelling, mythic, poetic and historic, of the struggles, commune-livity and revelations which lie ahead.
'Nuff can't be said for the spontaneous group of musicians, known mostly annually, as the Calabash Acoustic Ensemble, share-ingly led by Wayne Armond, which performed a vast tribute to the music of Ja-mecca, around and since Independence.
The Images (conceived as couplets...side-by-side) can be viewed in the Photo Gallery as:
• ZED Calabash Jubilation 1
• ZED Calabash Jubilation 2
“Today’s Jamaican writers are exposed to more people with different backgrounds. We are likely to see ourselves as part of a global literature, just as reggae music is part of a global music. We no longer feel obliged to help develop a national literary identity.”
