Members of the St. Elizabeth Parish Development committee presenting the Greater Treasure Beach Sustainable Plan to the Town & Country Planning Authority & the National Environment & Planning Agency. Board members commended the St. Elizabeth PDC on their work and said this plan has their full endorsement
Is it possible to either publish that Sustainable Plan here or provide a link to it. Also may I ask who authored the plan.
Good. When will the community have a chance to give their full endorsement?
Both the Parish Council and NEPA allowed the Great Wall against the wishes of many in the community. Now we are presented with a plan with a label of sustainability that seems to have been created without community consultation. Is the plan to now introduce it for public feedback? Or will we be forced to adopt whatever road to sustainabiliy is choosen? These entities must regain the trust that was lost along with whatever plans they may have. They should also move among us so we know who may be making these decisions. Wi nuh love duppy.
What plan?
Who are the members of the St. Elizabeth Parish Development committee and how were they selected?
Look forward to reading the plan. Look forward to working with you all.
I hope whatever plan being propose will include the completion of Great Bay Canal, this is the third political representative that we have so far and its seem like its going to take longer and The Panama Canal(1904-1914)The people of Treasure Beach need to unite and let their voices be heard.
The meeting in an closed? airconditioned room with pictures of politicians on the wall tells it's own story.
Those in the pictures may explain why we are crippled with debt, pollution and habitat loss continues and frustration mounts.
Was there an environmental scientist that was consulted? what happened to Diana McCauley and JET who had offered to help in TB?
Is it about working in sympathy with nature or sustaining money flow? That's the only sustainable I hear being discussed by the money movers.
If we are serious about community tourism and sustainable development those closed doors and air conditioners have to go. The pictures can go to a museum. The community must be involved and informed from the start.
Does the Parish Comittee have an email address or telephone #? Do they have any documents that the public can read to get an idea of their plans etc?
My guess is there will be a Great Wall of Silence when it comes to the Great Plan. It's the 1% vs. the 99% as is happening in America.

Will we be in line with the UN's agenda?
Does BREDS not have a pdf or other file with the plan? The Parish Council saw something? It takes much less than the three days since the announcement to download to the internet.
I hope that 99% Member is wrong and that we are going to start our next 50 years working as one.
Been following this. Here, our Municipal Council with our mayor, meets to examine proposals under the eye of the public TV. I see that degree of transparency has not happened in post colonial Jamaica as yet. How is any community based development going to occur without the community participating from the git go?
7 days since the announcement and still no plan to be shared even if we cannot vote on it. Rude.
A meeting was held at the Sandy Bank Primary School in April of 2011 to present the plan. Click here for photos of the slide show presenting the plan.
Slide show does not work
@Canada, sort you're having problems with the slideshow.
What exactly happens when you click on the Next and Prev links in the slideshow link? The picture should change accordingly.

The slide show has only one picture and a click on the arrow leads to a blank page.

Closed doors, one off meeting with no hard copy of the plan and late or never publishing of the plan. I think that the community is willing to work with sensible suggestions, we just have to know what they are and be able to give feedback.

I've been told Andre Gordon is the PR person for the Sustainable Development Committee. He gave me the following email address. andregordon@hotmail.com
I will tell you every time I've emailed him I have not gotten a response so maybe this is not the correct email address. If someone has a correct address for him please share it with us.
Got the photos to load and went through all 52 slides. Very confusing to me because about 2/3 of the slides seemed to point out what to do in major weather conditions such as a hurricane. Those photos that seemed to do with a sustainable development plan were photos of the slides given at the meeting and were all difficult to read. All in all, I still have no idea what the plan is and how it might affect any of us.
I respectfully ask BREDS or ANYONE to post the Plan AND explain what it means.
Let us know if this link works better for the slideshow

To TBNet:
The link does work!
Thanks. If someone with a bit of time could download the pertinent pages with text and photoshop, or whatever, to make them more readable, it would help start communication broadening.
You ARE serious? THIS is what we get to see?
For example - "A project manager, a long range planner and and secretary have been hired."
Really? Who are these people and what are their qualifications?
I could go on and on.
That is all the information I have. Please email Andre and see if he can give you anything else. If he does, please share it with us.
Thanks.
Great idea! Make it inscrutable; like puzzle.
Is there a prize?
Sounds like a town planner got together with a developer, hotelier, banker and politicians forgetting the crucial environmental planner and the community.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
We have been through exercises like this before and they didn't amount to much. There always has seemed to be a difference of opinion about who members of the community are. If a business person lives off island but provides gainful employment for several people, is that person to be treated with less of a "vote" than a business person who lives here? What about foreign people who have contributed much to improve education and literacy for many years?
I pray this is not a way to justify not allowing everyone who has a true interest in our community to be heard.

That's how we did it in the old days. Let them come to you to find out the plans we have for them. Can you imagine everybody participating? Too much confusion and less control. I'm glad to see the old ways still keep things in place.
Jamaica is the most inefficient piece of ground on the planet. Cavemen days are still there
So whatever this says who can believe it will happen whether or not anyone had input or feedback...
Let us remember the canal..disaster unfinished
Let us remember recent meeting where they are proposing to SAVE about a third of Font Hill an area previously promised to be TOTALLY protected.
As the thread mostly indicates another closed door meeting with a few in power forwarding their suggestions..promises are coming out of it but are they even wanted/needed and if so will they materialize or will it be more of the same?
Not much has changed don't see why anyone should think it will..
Old Lion, please let me know when you have invented the wheel and fire. No, please let the King know. We need things to be done the old ways and we would want the people to vote--too inefficient.
I meant we would NOT want the people to vote.
On whose desk does this buck stop?
New Lion, voting for two parties whose energies have been sapped by fighting and whose whose vision is clouded by power and cash flow, results in what we have. Us voters select on the basis of spun information and familial or emotional ties.
It's not inefficient, it's unreal. Sort of like the Plan which is kept from us.
Still working on the wheel, almost got fire. Just gotta rub them sticks faster.
