hello treasure beach,
i was wondering if the tradition of carpooling exists within the treasure beach community.
jeopardizing the business of our local taxi drivers is the last thing i am thinking about, but for longer distances (montego bay, kingston, ...) it could be a nice way of sharing resources and of minimizing the impact on our environment of fossil fuel powered locomotion.
would some of you be interested in a more or less formal, i.e. online, system where rides offered can be compared to rides wanted? could such a system eventually be included in the treasure beach website?
should implementing such a system seem like a worthwhile idea, i am willing to help setting it up.
wishing you an excellent day,
hans
ps: right now my wife and i are looking for a ride to kingston on the 6th or 7th of june (we have to transport a collection of fragile objects, making route taxis and mini buses a stressful option). any suggestions are welcome.
hans de man,
yes people already do this on this site. Simply put "ride share TB to Kingston June 6 or 7" on subject line with details and contact info in body of message.
There may just be another person that day, though the community is so small I doubt a formal system would be warranted.
The vast majority of those who may need these services probably have more of the funds needed for public transport not sharing a charter and probably are not online but I could be wrong on that one.
seems to me that when people post a 'wanna share a ride' here it usually fizzles out. if there was a more formal system in place i would probably use it.
maybe tour operators or taxi (wo)men could use it to get a group of people together going the the same place, rather than the multiple half/empty buses/cars that pull out now. could be a cheaper price per person but a larger pay off for the driver. Win-win.
but like anything, it would take someone to put their effort into it and make sure that it gets done. who is it going to be?
