Is there any truth to this news?

The details we've heard are sketchy, but a skeleton was found in the corner of the bluff and the beach. No identification has been made at this time.

Thanks TBNet but I am still curious to know if anyone has recently been missing from the area.

No recent disappearance but a few years a young man disappeared in tht area while swimming. There was a storm soon after, with a very high sea, which deposited a lot of moss and sand where the skeleton was found.

I know the big bad ocean has claimed the lives a lot of our community members; it’s about time she gave them back to us. There is one special brother I would love to find even if he is a skeleton.

By the way - How are those "Dangerous Waters" signs coming along? No where I bet. No one wants to frighten the tourists ....

If the skeleton was found in tact that would indicate that it did not travel far to reach where it was found.

I've heard more information on the skeleton. Apparently, this was a burial ground many many years ago. The skeleton found was very old and it is assumed it is someone's great or great great grandfather. It seems erosion and a shallow grave is what contributed to the discovery now.

tadd
i can tell you that there are signs on frenchmen's as well as calabash and old wharf

i have yet to visit the beach at great bay or in billys bay so i can not speak for them at this time

the tourists do not seemed frightened by the signs but instead are seen to ask someone about the conditions rather than going in dangerous watas
that's what i witnessed on the beach

hope that answers your inquiry

Thanks Rebecca. It had also crossed my mind that this human skeleton was washed up from some long-time burial ground and it might have been somebody's relative. I was informed that it was only the skull and bones from the knee down that were found. The bones seems to be very old and the forehead area of the skull looks very broad/prominent, like that of an Arawak Indian. I was also told that the bones have been removed by the authorities for examination.

I hope the bones are seen by Michael Gardner head of the Anatomy Department at UWI. He may be the one best qualified to date and identify them.
