Someone in my crew was recently advised to take Anamu. I did a little background reading and found it is known in Jamaica as Guinea Hen Weed or Guinea Hen Leaf, Garlic Weed, or Gully Root. Does anyone know if it is sold in Jamaica, or if it even grows in the Treasure Beach area? Give thanks.

Here's an article from the Gleaner just this week:

http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20120501/news/news4.html

It has been used for many different ailments, including cancer, arthritis, digestive disorders, infections and diabetes.

I'm assuming it grows in Jamaica but I don't know where you'd find it.

Yes it is sold in Jamaica (manufactured by Pro-Gro) under name of Guinea Hen Weed, in the form of teabags.
Tastes very good and is reputedly amazing.
Look for it in the bigger supermarkets and pharmacies in Kingston, or call them at 3889324

Someone has since informed me that this herb looks like one known locally as Devil's Horsewhip which grows wild in the hills above Treasure Beach (and may not be the same as guinea hen weed). I am assuming the area code for Pro-Gro is (876) and will contact them this coming week. Thank you both for the information.

Much appreciated reality; I'll definitely check it out. I also touched base with Pro-Gro and was told that the nearest point of sale to TB is at Horton's pharmacy in Mandeville. This is great news. Thanks to everyone for your help.

confirm, they grow wild in treasure beach, i see lot of them in old wharf, near the pound, like shaded undergrowth... smell bad but decoction said in 'herbal plants of jamaica' by Monica Warner to be "good as sedatives, treat bladder inflammation, diarrhoea, rheumatic pain, skin diseases, etc and contain substance effective in boosting the human immune system, and may be translated into a future cancer cure."
Friend of mine who know good the herbs use decoction of roots (or just smell the roots) against hay fever.

Thank you blue. By the way, what is the "pound" and where is it located?
