Treasure Beach is a stir with the excitment of the premiere of Deliverance happening on Saturday, April 10 at the Treasure Beach Church of God at 7:00 p.m.
The members of the church have been diligently practicing for weeks with doors and windows closed so us nosy neighbors can't get a sneak peak at the performance.
This performance will assist in raising funds for the church, so all are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Break a leg!!
Deliverance sure delivered Saturday night! What an amazing performance filled with imagination and creativity. We were absolutely entertained in fine fashion by the Treasure Beach Church of God Players.
The night began with the Elliot Singers warming up the crowd.
Then the curtains were drawn across the stage. (This consisted of several sheets being sewn together and hung on a wire extending the width of the church blocking the view of the pulpit/stage.) The excitement built, and the curtains were parted (which is also how the Red Sea was parted later in the show).
The first scene was a very convincing and angry Pharaoh proclaiming all the first born babies of the Israelites must die.
Then we witness Moses' mother and Miriam walking to the river to leave Moses in his basket.
The play progresses to Pharaoh's daughter finding him in the river, asking Miriam to take care of him, and coming to get him when he was older to bring him to live with her.
The story unfolds in front of us, and I do have to say, once again, that I was amazed at the creativity and imagination put into the elaborate costumes and props.
The Israelites were a convincing lot when they showed us sorrow and pain while under the oppresive rule of Pharaoh
and then their exhuberance upon their deliverance.
We got to meet Jethro, Moses father-in-law.
And the fierce looking guardsmen to Pharaoh.
But the show stoppers were the sheep.
The audience exploded in laughter when they were herded out and then heard the authentic sounding Bahs coming from them! Because the wool was over their eyes (so to speak) the herdsmen had to prod them with their staff to tell the sheep where and when to move. Absolutely precious!
It was quite a performance from beginning to end with the acting abilities of all involved superb!
Kudos to the cast members who were also the set designers, costume designers, writers, directors, producers, etc.

Pharaoh - ?
Jethro - ?
See if you can I.D. Pharoah and Jethro in the I.D. It section. Your guesses will be held for a few days and then posted. Hint: Visitors to Treasure Beach as well as residents should be familiar with this person.
Again, all involved should be very proud of a wonderful performance. I was told by Pharaoh that this took one month to put together. I actually would have guessed a lot longer seeing all the work and detail put into it. I can only hope for an encore performance and another play in the making. I know I'll be there!!!
