Dr. James Carney and Dr. William Griffin working in conjunction with the Christian Dental Society based in America has been coming to Jamaica offering free dental clinics for the past 17 years.

Dr. Carney started in Kingston, has spread out to Mavis Bank, Dallas, three different locations in Kingston and for the last eight years South St. Elizabeth. He and his crew of volunteers come to Jamaica an average of four times a year, twice to the Kingston side and twice to St. Elizabeth.

Eight years ago Dr. Carney joined forces with Pastor and Mr. Rowe of the St. John CME Church located in Pondside. They have set up quite an impressive clinic there including eight dental stations, compressors, etc. for running the equipment, and lots of patients!

Dr. Carney, Dr. Griffin and their team spent two weeks here in March. During that time they worked a total of eight days in their clinic in Hopewell/Pondside. For the eight days they were there they saw approximately 673 dental patients. They did 709 extractions, 179 fillings, and 175 cleanings. They are happy to be restoring more teeth and cleaning teeth and giving instructions on home care that will help more people save more teeth for their lifetime.

They will continue their outreach and hopefully encourage more teams to come and participate.

The cost for a visit is $500 JA which goes towards paying the utility bills for the clinic, etc.

This year we had one team for one week and another for the second week with some members of the team here for both weeks. Both teams were made up of approximately 18 persons.

We applaud Dr. Carney and his inexhaustible team for their continued support given to us! After leaving Jamaica Dr. Carney headed to Mexico with another team of volunteers.

And in addition to all of this Dr. Carney donated $100 US towards the Literacy Tutor Fund at the Sandy Bank Primary School.
