We're thinking of going to Port Antonio from Treasure Beach. What are the potential routes? I'm a little leery of driving through Kingston (I've driven in JA a lot but not Kingston) but that looks like the more direct route. Is there an alternative? About how long should it take, more or less?

Thanks.

The quickest was is through Stoney Hill, Kingston. There is no problem traveling that way and the road through the mountains is quite beautiful. You are only in Kingston for about 10 minutes.

How long do you think the drive is? I realize there are many variables, including traffic.

Figure on 6 1/2 hours.

We did it a couple of years ago and it was 5 1/2 hours with someone who knew the route really well. It was well worth it.

Thanks. I was thinking 6 hours. Of course, in JA there are so many variables, including road work, that it is hard to predict.

I recall one trip from Negril to Kingston where we had been on the road maybe 1/2 hour and came upon a small bridge which they had decided to do maintenance on. So we all sat for about 1.5 hours and waited and waited. Fortunately, there was some shade and we didn't have a true deadline to get to Kingston so it turned out ok. I had told my fellow travelers that "anything could happen" and this was a good example.
