Just back from a wonderful visit to the Billy's Bay area. Our home away from home. Such a paradise. However, the banking service needs to be addressed. The ATM at Crossroads was down for days so it meant you needed to travel further to get money. There are none in the vicinity or if they are we were not eligble to use them. More ATM's are needed. More visitors so the need is there.
Isn't there an ATM in the BREDS Source?
Yes, there is one there. However, it is only for use by members in Jamaica. (We tried ) Thanks though. Jakes has one but only for people staying there.
What are "members in Jamaica"?
I tried my Credit Union card from Canada and it was refused. I was told that the ATM only took cards from that Credit Union. My card from Bank of Nova Scotia here in Canada works in Jamaica but not there It is confusing. Need more ATM's like Crossroads that takes both cards.
I agree. Could the one at Breds source not be made to accept the major cards?
Sounds like a great idea. Who do you contact to maybe make it happen ? Appreciate your help.
Maybe the heads of the bank there will read this thread. They are loosing potential fees. Give them a call.
We locals have tried for ages to get one of the banks to put in an ATM in Tbeach that both locals and visitors with foreign debit/credit cards can use but to no avail. They say that there isn't enough market for it. Go figure.
The ATM at BREDS is a JNBS machine and we all know that Jamaica National is not a commercial bank its a Jamaican bank.So visitors cannot cannot get access to their money.
I don't get it, if Jakes has one who put it there? Only banks and Credit unions are allowed to operate ATM networks.
What is the name of the bank or credit union that operates the machine at Breds Resource?
Still, a walk to X Road is just what the docs suggested. Stop at the bar with the fruit stand outside and have a chat with the regulars. Watch the traffic on the narrow parts.
Yes, I found it not working too many times. This system cannot run on quite and laid back.
Spooky Dude. Where on here did anyone say that this machine had anything to do with Jakes? Get your facts straight. Go and research why JNB and BREDS are in partnership before you make these comments.
NORMAN said there was an ATM at Jakes.
Spooky Dude [edited by TB.Net]Jakes did not put up the ATM at Breds and Jakes does not have an ATM so i don't know where you got your answers from [edited by TB.Net]
As far as I know all ATMs in Jamaica are linked on the MultiLink network and should be able to process all cards. There maybe a problem for the Credit Unions' ATMs processing foreign cards.
'Even more frustrated', I accept your apology! Thank you 'Read the posts'!
Turey you cannot be serious that tourists should walk to Crossroads. They don't come to hike.
Most don't, some do PU.
And bike too.
It is so interesting how a topic as simple as ATM service can stimulate such conversation. In my search for a ATM in Treasure Beach ,I have found this information. JNBS is not a commercial bank like Bank of Nova Scotia. According to the web that is why JNBS cannot take cards from Canada or the US. On another point, I did not say Jakes put the ATM in King Fisher Plaza. Also, unless the situation at Jakes has changed in the last while -there is an ATM there. I thank the people who have responded to my first posting because it is only through discussion that a solution can be found. As the old saying goes, a solution comes from many ideas. All I need is an answer. Please, to walk from Billy's Bay to Crossroads-not me.
JNBS, I didn't supply answers I asked a question!! I can't believe two persons so misunderstand a simple post which criticised no one. My goodness, this is frightening! No wonder there is so much conflict around! I know TBNet is quick to edit, but two in such a short post; {edited by TBNet}
Spooky Dude, Your reaction is so very much overboard . As I said , I am looking for input and, yes even, support on how to get an ATM in this area. The tone of my posts were not confrontational or critical. Your quote of " so much conflict around " is what is wrong. I am not seeing this as you see it We are having a simple dialogue on a topic . Please , see it for that and not see it as a challenge or something to create conflict. Help me solve this situation and be part of a solution.
