This will mark the eighth consecutive year that UVA students will be in Treasure Beach to assist in the schools. The 20 university students will be arriving on Saturday, March 3. They will be working at both Sandy Bank Primary and Sandy Bank Basic Schools, doing whatever they can to help.
This is a volunteer trip which is part of the Alternative Spring Break program. As opposed to other university students who spend their spring break partying, these students have chosen to assist where they are needed.
They apply to be able to go to Treasure Beach, and only a small percent of the applicants are chosen—so Treasure Beach is getting the “cream of the crop.” These students pay all their own expenses, and this is a financial sacrifice for most of them.
Please give them a warm welcome when you see them walking to and from the schools starting on Monday, March 5.
Wonderful. I hope my daughter gets to do something like this when she is in college. They didn't have this kind of program when I was in school.
are they her to help the children them yet
Yes, they are in Treasure Beach. Please give them a big smile and say hi when you pass them on the road tomorrow.
I stopped by yesterday evening as the scholarship recipients were sitting down with the UVA students to enjoy a night of good food and good conversation. Miss Zane got the evening started with a great introduction exercise and that started the conversations flowing.
Thanks again to all the students!

I love these trip photos. Thank you Rebecca.
Every year the photos of the UVA trip make me smile. It looks like a great experience for all. The children are wonderful and the college students must be having a great time doing something that they will remember for a long, long time.
Speaking of children, who are the "little fish"?
I am looking forward to the photos that will be put here by the university students. They are always great.
The Sandy Bank Primary School family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the University of Virginia students for coming and sharing with us their kindness, warmth, knowledge and expertise. They spent quality time assisting students and also learning from each other, various aspects of their culture. Having you here meant a lot to all of us and we want you to know that you will always be remembered. We wish for you all, success in your future endeavours.
