Treasure Beach Forum: TB Runnin's: Lyric questions . . .

My family will be staying at Lyric at the end of the month and I'm working on a packing list. Some questions:

Is there a stereo at Lyric? Does it have an FM reciever or a port that I can plug my iPod into?

Is there a hammock? I've seen pictures, but would like confirmation. Otherwise, I might bring my Mayan hammock to hang there by the pool.

How's the beach there for snorkeling? Lots of fish? Safe for kids to snorkel?

Can I rent snorkeling fins in TB? I'd rather not pack them. (Might need room for my hammock!)

Thanks for your help!

Lyric has a boombox only. I don't know about a plug for your iPod. And yes, there is a hammock, just like in the picture.

I'm not much of a snorkler, so I can't answer that question. The pool was wonderful.

I know you will have a great time there. And you will eat well too!

Not sure about the FM receiver and iPod since I'm not even sure what an iPod is?!?!?! But I will find out for you.

I was visiting someone there yesterday and the hammock was hanging invitingly right next to the pool.

Snorkeling is weather dependent. Lyric does have some masks and snorkels available, so no need to bring your own and if weather permits, the reef just down the beach is wonderful for snorkeling.

I will also 2nd KarenK's comments on the food. Polly is a wonderful cook, so bring your appetite.
My family will be staying at Lyric next week and I can't wait to be invited to dinner!

I just got back from nine glorious days at Lyric and you are in for an amazing treat!! We brought a few different types of MP3 players with us, as well as the cassette transformer that you would use in your car- which worked great with the stereo that is there. The hammock is awesome, we did bring an additional one that fits perfectly between two trees just to the right of the eating area. We all spent many hours reading, and staring into the ocean from our hanging bed! We did a bit of snorkeling out from the beach, over near the coral there were a few fish but you do need to be careful as especially later in the day the waves and undertow are quite strong.
And I will 3rd the comments on the food = ) Polly is unbelievable!!!

Looks like someone is getting excited about laying in a hammock, listening to his fine music and dining on Polly's incredible dishes. I know Annabelle has replied to you directly re: the ipod, but if you have any more questions when you arrive, you can call me directly or email me at:
975-5499, or twigitha@cwjamaica.com I'm the lucky Todd who lives in Jamaica and gets to visit Lyric on the one or two days that it's free. I'm sure Polly will be able to answer any questions you have, but feel free to contact me any time.

If the weather is too rough for snorkeling but fine for surfing, we also have some surf boards. I will contact Polly to make sure all toys are made available to you.

Have fun
Sarah Todd

Lyric (and Polly!) sound wonderful! I like that it is on the beach AND has a pool!

I have read that the house sleeps 6... is it comfortable for 3 couples? What is the bedding in each room? And the bathroom set up?

Since Polly cooks just breakfast and dinner, for those of you who have stayed at Lyric what did you do for lunch?

And could you describe your typical day at Lyric?

Sue

Hi Sue,
Just to let you know that Polly will cook any and all meals for you. If you want ten a day, she will cook ten. Regarding the bedrooms, there are three bedrooms with a king size bed in the master bedroom and two singles which turn into Queens in the other two. There are two fully equiped bathrooms but most people use the outside shower for showering. Since my family is the owner, I will let others give you their unbiased opinions on everything else. You can also contact me directly at lyricjamaica@rogers.com if you like.

Dear Sue,

I am a friend of the Todd's - and can tell you that Lyric is a lovely, lovely spot for a vacation in T. Beach.

Polly and Lancel really go above and beyond in every way - and Polly's cooking is out of this world!

I was just there yesterday visiting with Sarah, and looking out to the sea and hearing the waves - it really is a treat....it is the type of house that allows you to nap, swim, read, whatever you want; with the view and sounds of the ocean making it surreal.

Enjoy!!

Jeanine Tribley

Thank you for the information. Before we inquire further about dates & rates we wanted to make sure that one of the bedrooms didn't have bunk beds or something else "un-coupley" like that.

We are in the very premilinary stages of planning this trip... having most fun gathering up information. Treasure Beach is high on our list of destinations, and Lyric high on our list of places to stay.

I want to add, that this is a wonderful site that you have here. The amount of information in regards of your community is fantastic. I have enjoyed reading all the links, which is fueling my desire to visit Treasure Beach.

Best regards, Sue

Just want to throw in my two cents.

I'd been around, I'd seen some things, but never knew real peace till I'd swung in a hammock near a cut stone house named Lyric with a belly full of Polly's Key Lime Pie, a head full of good conversation with Lancel, my wife in the pool, the man-o-war riding the thermals, The Maytals on low, and the waves breaking below.

It's pretty sweet.

Best to all,
Tom&Vanessa

Hi all,

I have been in contact with Annabelle for some time, now, as we decided, then chose to come to TB and stay at Lyric. I want to say you've been extremely helpful and kind, Annabelle, as has your sister, Sarah. Thank you both.

I'm now ready to post questions to the forum, so others would have the benefit of the answers.
My first questions I have are these:

What types of electrical plugs are there? We are from the US. Do we need any special adapters?

I'm a big water drinker. I'd hate to have to buy bottled water the entire week. How drinkable is the tap water? Should I bring a filter of any kind?

I also would like to not only do a lot of swimming (probably in pool), but also wonder about walking around TB. Is it safe to walk long distances around TB by myself?

Thanks!

Margie

Hey Margie, I am writing this the morning after a delicious lobster dinner at Lyric and my taste buds are still smiling!

All of the questions you have asked are answered in the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section of this site.

Enjoy your time at Lyric.

Thanks for the referral to the FAQ's. I had read them when we first decided to come to TB, but funny how much you forget along the way...

Another question: After doing some research, it appears that Jamaica time equals Eastern Standard Time (such as in New York City). But, there could be a difference when daylight savings time comes. Will the time still be the same as in New York?

Thanks,

Margie

When you 'spring forward' we don't. I'm not sure what date that falls on this year, but from then until you 'fall back' we are an hour behind you.

Simply put, we do not practice daylight savings time.

Tom really captured the spirit of the place in his post above. We had a great time at Lyric. The house is beautiful, and the people who took care of us while we were there were wonderful.

I've got a couple of galleries of pictures online, which include a number of pictures of Lyric and the grounds.

First some pictures that Kelly and I took:

And here's some pictures from my new sister-in-law, Amy (aka Mary Sue).

Thanks! I haven't had tears in my eyes like that since the last time I watched "Old Yeller". Truly a great video but I had to go to http://www.nudd.com/wedding/ and then clicked on Treasure Beach Video as the second link wouldn't open. Thanks for sharing.
Mike

Rebecca, I see that in 2004 you didn't know what an IPOD was, do you know yet, 'cause I'm still trying to figure it out. Is it a mask for your eyes, will they need a snorkel?

Sarah

No snorkel needed, Sarah:

Well Sarah, I know what it is, but that is as far as it goes. I'm still trying to figure out why I needed to get a stereo that is MP3 compatible as I've never seen those small CD's for sale in Jamaica yet?!?!? But then, I still miss my 8 tracks and 45's.

No iPods in Jamaica you say ??? ...

Keep a look-out on the shores of Great Bay for mine to wash up. Dropped it in the ocean one afternoon while dancing at the shoreline.

Ahhhhhhhhh Lyric!!! Six days and counting!!! Can hardly wait!!! The anticipation is almost too much!

We are sooo looking forward to Polly's smiling face & delicious cooking, Lancel's pleasant company, the incredible Lyric view, and making the big decisions of the day... where do I plant myself- poolside or beachside? Rum punch or Red Stripe? Read or nap?

And BTW, I am sure amongst us we will have an IPOD or two, so if anyone would like to see & try one in person, come on by! hahahaha

See you soon Rebecca!!!

:-) Meredith
