Wa'gwan!

I will be visiting TB in January. Been doing a lot of research and it sounds like just the place I'm looking for to RELAX! I will be bringing some fishing gear with me and I hope to do a little shore-fishing while I'm there and perhaps get out in a small boat for a few hours. I am hoping that someone can give me advice as to what I should bring. Lures, hook sizes, weights, and such. Also, is there anything I can bring that is difficult to get in Jamaica that I could bring to trade or give as gifts?

Looking forward to seeing you!

David

Ight spinning tackle, mono leader, braided line, spoons, bucktails should work. Local fisherman use wire leader for off shore. Ask for Bibi as a guide, the best

You might want to connect with Ted, Dennis or another boat operator to go out fishing. The shore fishing is probably not going to be very productive. Jerry

You will definitely need to hire a boat to take you out fishing. My wife is a fisherwoman and she always hire BeBe to take her out, and was always very satisfied with him. Anyone on Frenchmen Bay knows him, so just ask around for him. Him and his wife also runs Bebe's Place. A really nice place to stay.
All the boatmen can be founded on Frenchmen Bay hanging out at Eggy's Bar on the beach.
ONE LOVE !!
Mike

Bernard(BeBe) and Dennis are your guys for fishing and if you want to strike lucky then Ted is a definite and amusing option but you have to keep his mind concentrated on the job!

Trouble is, local waters are heavily fished out and fishing is very chancy compared to 50-60 years ago please - don't try and even guess my age thank you.

You can have fun trips but don't expect too much. Who knows, the kingfish might start to run early. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the advice! I do not have high expectations for shore fishing. I just enjoy spending some quiet time near the ocean with the hopes of catching a few interesting smaller fish. Thank you for the contacts as well, I will definitely get out on a boat but I wonder if there are any places where I could wade or cast from shore? We are staying near Mar Blue. I will be taking long walks along the beaches and thought I would bring a rod & reel along to try my luck in places along the way. Again, I'm not looking to catch anything big, I enjoy seeing the saltwater fish even if they are small. Very different from the fresh-water fishing I do in Canada.

Merry Christmas!
