It's come to my attention that blood donations are down in Jamaica. This directly affects the ability of some gravely ill people to receive transfusions. I know the people of Treasure Beach are very generous, and I believe many of them would donate blood to help build the reserves back up if they knew how and where to do so.
I am asking someone who is knowledgeable about this to please post instructions on this Forum so caring residents would know how to donate. I am thinking the word could be spread in the community so more people can be reached than only the people who read the Forum.
Yes, there is an island-wide shortage on blood right now so anyone willing and able please donate.
The nearest donation location for us in Treasure Beach is Mandeville Hospital. Monday - Thursday 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and Friday 9:30 - 2:30.
I just came from there today. Nurse Hamilton took great care of me and made the process actually enjoyable.
Can tourists donate blood? What restrictions are there in terms of age, weight, and health conditions? I ask because I don't want to go to Mandeville and then get turned down.
A quick google search did not turn up any concrete answers for the requirements for giving blood.
The Jamaica National Blood Transfusion Service has a facebook page. Perhaps they could answer the question? (The link does NOT require you to have a facebook account)

Thanks for sharing your blood
Normally the restrictions for giving blood are pretty universal. If you have concerns you could contact the Red Cross.
