hi everyone i am wondering if anyone has any idea what is biting me and also what i can use to repell such beasts!?
Im on holiday in treasure beach and have been using insect repellant with a 50% deet content, i have a few mosquito bites which appear red and itchy but no real bother to me and dissapear compleitly after a few days. This is my fifth visit to treasure beach and this past two visits something has bitten me on the face making the area swell up alot once to the point i could only see out one eye as my top eyelid swelled up soo much and the other time my top lip was nearly touching my nose it was very swolen, this time ive been bitten on my lower eye lid and its swollen up and hurts a bit , im ok and can still see but i just dont know whats getting me as this is not at all like the reaction i get to mosquitos. Can anyone offer any advice? Thank you

Could be ant bites? I use vinegar on all bites and itchs....works for me.

Some people get a reaction from the juice of a mango - and swell up in eyes and mouth, itchy too. If such is the case, get someone to peel the mango for you and then enjoy.

What about sand flies, if that's what they are called? Tiny little things. I think they are called that because they are very tiny, like a grain of sand. One year in TB i was plagued by them. Ended up wearing socks pulled up high. That helped.

Though what you have seems like a bad reaction.

Thanks Snooze, i think it could be ants! Its definately not mango as i havent had any, i do love mango.
Mango wouldnt make just one eye swell unless like you say if id prepared it, then touched my face-ill remember this when i do get mangos, probably not until my next visit in april!

I appreciate the advice of the use of vinegar for after bite care however how do you repell ants, perticularly from your face as it swells up when they bite me.....
The villa is very well kept and clean but ive noticed very small ants are definatelly going about in quite big quantities, apart from being tidy with food and being well swept how can i stop or cut down on ants getting inside?
Does aloe vera do anything for swelling?
Thank you :-)

Sand flys are annoying , they are not the size of sand grains infact much bigger than that! Ive been bitten by them before but i dont react to them and they usually get my legs and feet mainly. Deet or off spray seems to work for them or wearing trousers n socks...... Its not the bites or itchyness thats bothering me its the swelling and and slight pain on my face thats horrible. X

There are some fine ants that have a powerful sting.

Perhaps you should see a doctor.
Could be an allergic reaction to something, which can be very dangerous !
ONE LOVE !!

Wasps? My daughter was stung in bed during the night by a wasp under the sheet. That though should have caused you to wake up, unless you were imbibing heavily!

I am going to add my 2 cents...for what it's worth. :-)

It could be mosquito bites.

I never had any allegric reactions to mosquitos until a few years ago. Then WHAM! One year everytime I got bit by one, the site would swell up to to half a baseball size. I kept track of the bites I received from mossies and put two and two together.
The area gets red and hot to the touch. Once I got bit on my forehead and it swelled up my entire eye area.
If you are still concerned, I'd visit a Dr. or a nurse.
