Treasure Beach Forum: TB Runnin's: Interested in a Visit

I live in Ohio and my husband and I are very interested in a vacation in Jamaica but we're not interested in a tourist trap. We want to experience the real place and the real people. We're not wealthy and would be interested in a B&B or similar accommodations. The only "touristy" thing we'd be interested in would be the Bob Marley Museum; otherwise, we'd like peace, quiet and the opportunity to know the authentic Jamaica. I happened upon this website and think Treasure Beach would be a good fit for us. I've looked into the cost of flying and understand we'd want to land in Kingston (although Montego Bay looks closer). Any advice or suggestions would be most helpful. We're hoping to come next March.

Good evening
Treasure Beach is in fact the ideal place for peace and quiet and getting to know the authentic Jamaica and Two Seasons Guest House, where the welcome is warm and the runnings cool, is the place for you to stay on a budget. Our rates include breakfast and free Internet access. Please visit our website at www.2seasonsguesthouse.com. Click on rooms and rates.

Regarding airports, Montego Bay is about a 2.5 hour drive, while Kingston is about 3 hours. The Bob Marley Museum is located in Kingston.

Hi Rene. From what you've written, I think Treasure Beach will be perfect for you two. Its is definitely the 'real' Jamaica and you can't help but meet the residents in a friendly way.

Montego Bay is the better airport to fly into...closer, easier, nicer, and better drive to TB, unless if you REALLY want to see the Marley museum. (I'd skip it, but that's me)

Other suggestions besides Bob Marley Museum:
YS Water Falls, maybe with Appleton Rum Tour
Pelican Bar/ Black River Tour
Biking around the area

I agree with skipping the Bob Marley Museum unless you are determined to see it. #1 thing to do is to go to Floyd's Pelican Bar and also go up the Black River. #2 is a day trip to YS Falls with an optional stop at the Appleton Rum factory. Other than that, hang around Treasure Beach. Check out Calabash House as a good guesthouse.

Hi Rene,
I also think Treasure Beach will be a perfect fit for you. My husband and I have spent a week there each winter for the past 7 years and love it so much that next winter, we're staying for two months! There are many guest houses, with a range of amenities and price ranges. We've stayed at Jake's (twice) and at Great Escape (outside of town on the beach) and have enjoyed both. Each offers its own unique experience as do other accommodations.

I concur with the previous post that flying into MBJ is a great way to go. No matter how you get there, or where you stay, you're sure to enjoy the wonderful hospitality and good nature of the people who live in TB.

Feel free to contact me directly if you'd like more info. ehbidmon@comcast.net

I'm bemused at this "skip the Marley Museum" advice that is cropping up!

Also, the Kingston airport is certainly not bad these days. It has been significantly upgraded; just as the Mobay airport, and a good portion of the road from Kingston to Treasure Beach makes for a pleasant ride down.

If the prospective visitors wished they could stay at a B&B overnight in Kingston and see the Bob Marley Museum before driving down to Treasure Beach the following day. On the other hand, if they get into Kingston early enough they could be picked up, taken to the museum and then driven down to T. Beach the same day and thereafter have a nice, quiet holiday.

Just saying...!

You should have a great time, and if you don't, then the "real" Jamaica isn't for you. I've been grateful for the help of Treasure Tours during my several vacations in Treasure Beach.

My husban and I are from Illinois, and we find TB to be beautiful and charming, with a variety of places to stay, eat, and visit. Our son and his family, which includes 2 young children, also love TB. Our grandchildren, Max and Emi, also love TB and consider themselves "Jamaricans". As for which airport, what to see, etc...just suit yourself. explore and enjoy

If you really need to see something for Bob Marley, you will come away more satisfied if you visit 9 mile and take the tour. This is where his body is at rest.

Our regular rates are very affordable and includes a continental breakfast. We also have a restaurant on the property for lunch and dinner. The beverages are also available at reasonable prices. Great food and lots of privacy.

I agree that Button Bay has very reasonable rates and offers a private and natural setting that is unique. Gladys and William are so wonderful making their guest one with Jamaica. But the most important thing to just relax and ever you do, trust me, this will be adventure that you will forget.
