We are reminding everyone here to respect their fellow web visitors and Forum poster by not engaging in personal attacks, even if you don't like what that person has to say. we're going to be a bit more strict in moderating messages since a few seem to have gotten out of hand.

TB.Net it's a bit too late now, if you were serious about moderating you would not have published the article by Dr Simms, with the caption by Jahili,'Signs of progress'on August 14th, for more than one reason. (1)The subject matter is a national issue, and has nothing to do with TB in particular and should be treated like a political issue. Political implications has developed since the intervention of the USA and the EU. secondly,if you should do a survey in the area you would find that 99% of the people, find the article, and the caption objectionable,to say the least. Thirdly,if you truely love TB.love it for what it is,unspoilt, unique, rustic, not for what some people would like it to become. Just an advice.

Vawhn it is not too late. The webmasters are often torn between making this a totally open forum and being overly strict. For one I think they have done a great middle of the road path. If they wish to reconsider things or change things they are entitled to. It is never too late to learn.

Under the U.S constitution "free speech" is a RIGHT of every person, no matter how vile that speech is. I fully support that right. However, this forum is not subject to the U.S. constitution nor my personal feelings about free speech.
It is own and operated by private individuals, and they have the right to censor any speech they deem to be not acceptible, and I fully support their to do so.
I feel that the moderators have done an excellent job in monitoring this forum, and personal attacks should NEVER be allowed !!
ONE LOVE !!
Mike

Vawhn I have to disagree with you. "Signs of Progress" is very very relevant to Treasure Beach". Jamaica loses billions of tourist dollars a year because of it's well documented homophobia. Gays and their straight friends and family refuse to support an economy that still lives in the dark ages when it comes to homosexuality. If an article opens a discussion and enlightens even one person then it has served it's purpose.

This forum allows people to oppose all views but it doesn't allow people to be antagonistic or vitriolic in their response.

Disagree, I agree!
I know for a fact that Elton John has been invited to play at Jazz and Blues but said he will never set foot in Jamaica because of the homophobia here. Now, I am straight, but how many of you would have likes to see Elton John? (Without cost considerations of course).

Thank you for saying what you did, Disagree. I respect cultural differences, but I find it difficult to suggest Jamaica as a destination to any of my gay friends. I would never forgive myself if they were treated badly or embarrassed at any point in their visit. This includes every place they may be, even the airport in MoBay or Kingston. I have straight friends who will not visit Jamaica because they do not want to support a nation that looks down on homosexuals. Jamaica is doing itself a disservice by not being more kind to homosexuals. Accepting people for who they are would go a long way toward increasing tourism and reducing bad feelings.
