I do not agree with the coments made by Helen Anderson, living there before for a few years I learn to love the place, and the people from TB, you give respect to get respect.
We are in 2011, PROGRESS is normal, even if not everybody likes it....that is life.

But were does Helen gets that information from, I do travel a lot also and TB is one of the places that we keep going back to, because we can relax there and enjoy peace. We are talking about TB. It does not matter were are you from, you can walk the streets and feel safe.
I know of may expats living there for that same reason.

Here are Helen's comments form the article (at bottom of page):

"To properly work this niche, Treasure Beach stakeholders must be abe to gurantee the security of the visitors. One negative incident and the entire "bed and breakfast" industry is destroyed. Visitors are being robbed, raped and treated badly at large all-inclusive resorts where they thought they would be safe and immune from these unpleasant experiences, so what assurance are the "villa and BnB operators giving the potential visitors? Se4cond, let's face it, the whole point of a BnB vacation is the cost effectiveness of it....meaning cheap, affordable etc. I get the feeling that these BnB operators would be gourging the visitor just like regular hotels, with $150 a night rooms and $20 a plate breakfast. Then they will bawl and complain that government not helping them! BnB development needs a proper and sound business lan. All this aeriated talk doesnot sound like one is in place."

A friends B&B was $40/night with good food at reasonable prices. Their host was gracious and best of all, they never locked their doors. The host's only fear was the government coming in and charging back tax and forcing them to comply with a long list of regulations. After paying for his kids, repairing what was left of the car etc, there would be no money for an accountant I'm sure with Sustainability Jamaica 2030 at play, such facilities will be encouraged in every way. They want to pay tax and comply with reasonable standards, but certainly need assistance and a tax holiday to be given a chance.

No place can guarantee safety. In a B&B or community room situation, it the the community that best looks after security. One incident can indeed effect the whole picture.

It sure could, that is everywhere, but is not something that happens frequenly...and no rapes that I know of...not in TB...Jamaica is separated in about what 7 or 8 sections, I know South Coast and North Coast , because I been there, and I love them, I can not speak for the rest
