After reading some of the posts I must say first our residents appreciate your interest in our beautiful Treasure Beach. But I have seen quite a few comments about guest houses being empty and the low ball offers being made to the owners of the guest houses in Treasure Beach. I realize that some of the posts are not from Jamaicans, but to my disappointment many seem to be. What I call Jamaicans how have become “westernized” and think that everything out of North America is a third world. So they present these low ball offers. In my experience it’s Jamaicans from England and Canada who seem to think this way. To those of you, who are not, please don’t insult the intelligence of the hotel owners and the fine people of the community. My I recommend you go to and stay in Montego Bay instead and leave our seaside town to be appreciated by persons who appreciates community, quaintness and relaxation.

"From Treasure Beach" I myself did not know it was so expensive to stay at those guest houses in Treasure Beach. I was planning to stop at one for Christmas Holidays 2011, but I will not pay so much myself. No wonder the guest houses have to be empty most of the time.

Excuse me !!
There is no such thing as "low balling" for accomodations are any other thing being sold.
If the buyer makes an offer that is lower then the usual price, and the seller accepts it,then what is wrong with that ? It has been my experience as a frequent traveller, that nobody is going to accept an offer that he will lose money on. It is only the amount of profit he is willing to make on the deal, and if business is slow, then he will accept a smaller profit, then none at all.
For a buyer, the only time something is a "rip off" is when you have to pay an inflated price (not the usual price) for something, because you have no other choice. If as a buyer you agree to pay the usual price, are an inflated price, when you have other choices, then this is not a "rip off" by the seller.
It is strictly a business transaction that works both ways between the buyer and seller !!!!!
ONE LOVE !!
Mike

I also wanted to add that the reason you believe that this "low balling" occurs more often with Jamaicans, is the fact that Jamaicans probably have a better unterstanding of what the "usual price" is, therfore they are less incline to pay the "inflated price" that is often pay by non-Jamaicans (tourist) !!
Get REAL !! There is definitely a unoffcial "two tier" pricing system in Jamaica !

To Art Vandalay
Everyone has a right to freedom of speech. I was born and bred in Treasure Beach and I know what I am talking about. I will not pay so much for accomodation. [edited by TB.Net]

I own a guest house in Treasure Beach and people sometimes approach me to see what kind of a deal they can get. If I have an empty room I may rent it for lower than regular so I can cover my JPS bill. My observation has been that most of these people I end up renting to leave no tip or a tiny tip for excellent service. I would like to remind people there is a difference between asking for a bargain and being cheap with the help.

How do you know that they don't tip the help straight up? If they don't tip either way then that's not nice.

There is not a set fee for guest houses, some guest houses are VERY EXPENSIVE, you can find from one end to the other, so there is options, no one is force to pay for the 500.00US per night, I have been there several times, you can find good deals. Guest house is correct, they still have bills to pay. Is good money spend for more relax and clean environment.
I LOVE TB....JUST LIKE IT IS, HOPE IT NEVER TURNS IN TO A NEGRIL.
