Treasure Beach Forum: TB Runnin's: MoBay money exchange question

We're coming in nine days and with our midwestern weather iffy, I'm worried about getting in MoBay too late at night. I don't want to exchange anything in the airport so can anyone tell me if there are any 24/7 cambios in MoBay? We are going directly to Culloden first (TB after 3 days)and we are not passing Negril, Sav or even Black River, and Whitehouse does not have any cambios. So MoBay it must be, but where?

The new Super Plus super market in Mobay can exchange for you. They are open until 9:00 p.m. You could also exchange a small amount at the airport just to hold you over until you can get to a Cambio if you arrive late.

If you are leaving from Culloden and going to Treasure Beach, unless you are going a round about way, you will pass through Black River and can exchange there.

I would assume there is a place to exchange in Whitehouse as well. Just ask your driver or where you are staying. There are also places to exchange in Treasure Beach, but you probably know that already.

Rebecca
Thanks for coming through. We'll have our driver stop at the Super Plus if needed. If we get in early enough, are most MoBay cambio's pretty much equal in the exchange rate or do some have better rates? We are in Culloden for three days and wanted JA$ for food and drink plus to pay our room bill. We were told to get cash from the ATM machine in Whitehouse but we didn't want to rely on our card working in Jamaica. See you soon.

Actually, I have had good luck with the ATM in Whitehouse. I had clients not able to get through on the one in Black River the other day and the one in Whitehouse worked fine. What I don't know is what the exchange rate is that the bank gives.

Most Cambio's vary around $50 JA but not much more than that.

Try 'The Gemini Shop' on Gloucester Ave in MoBay/the hip strip for generally the besr exchange rate around. It's a little hole-in-the-wall souvenir/liquor shop with 9-5 hours. Lock your car if you go in since the area has touts.

Most all of the duty free shops located on Gloucester Ave. exchange $. They are usually open until 7:00 p.m.
