TBNet, may I humbly ask that you perform editing of posts for grammar and construction. It would help folks who have difficulty expressing themselves and are unsure of the correct grammar. I know it could be challenging, but you have been able to edit for other things,so why not assist folks in this difficulty, and improve the image of the site.

While we agree that a clear, concise message is the best way to convey one's ideas, we barely have time to do all the approving (and unfortunately sometimes editing) of the posts here. So we are not able to edit for grammar/typos.

Hey Spooky Dude,

You have to remember that it's not everyone that do a posting had the opportunity to even attend elementary school.

As long as there is no swear words or name calling then who cares. At least they had the cuts to come and joint the party.

Again I say, hire Spooky to oversee this. Then we can all talk to him daily. What more could you want?

I humbly suggest this is a community forum that one and all with common decency is allowed to express themselves according to ability and cultural norms. Suggesting intellectual discrimination would damage and destroy the rich value that this forum serves.
The farmer and the dress- maker I met years ago, by Bluntas Well, talking about sewing/sowing would be amused. Understanding for me is preferred over formality in this context.Tank God Mi prayer accepted and answer an mi feel love once I have communicated.

Good idea Glen, but I would do it for free, have compassion, I understand what you are saying, but they would learn when they read the corrected version, it is not for ridicule is to teach.

Hey 'Have Compassion' - funny one, if that was your intention..

Native I am afraid you have only communicated your misunderstanding of what I suggested and that a little help would do no harm. You have wittingly/unwittingly made my point.

Spooky dude, i agree it good to help and teach, and people maybe would see where they had gone wrong or miss spelled etc. On the other hand i dislike being corrected and i always understand what people write regardless of how its spelled or constructed so its not really necessary in my opinion.i kinda like how alot of people write how they talk or how something sounds etc.

What are on earth are you trying to say!!! Some of the most educated, intelligent people in the world cannot spell due to dyslexia etc. I cannot believe that are you actually suggesting that the TB site should correct the mistakes of people who write on here (what with red typo lol)!!

I dont think anyone has misunderstood you Spooky Dude, far from it!

There are many people in JA/World who cannot read or write but the main reason is not because they are unintelligent, it is because their parents have not been able to afford to send them to school, food on the table has/is been the priority.

Communication is the point. Efficient and widely understood assists our relating with each other without the frictions of misunderstanding. English fits the bill. Bucky Massa tongue or not, so it guh. English however does not have the emotional tones that Jamaican patois has. Our culture gives us permission to be as politically incorrect as we want. Then laugh about it.

Mathematics is the most precise language, it cannot describe feelings and the nuances that us humans decorate our talk with though. Both speech and body language. It is also not widely used.

Local patois communicates where we are from; Jamaica. The ways of turning words and the content tells when we were born. Imagine 70's talk. To those with keen ears, which towns and cities we are associated with. I have a hard time understanding both North American young people patois and that of our young. Evolution.

We are not equal in speech, hight, weight, DNA, opportunity, place of birth....Each of us is unique. We should be equal before the law. In the eyes of The Infinite is another argument.

We may give each other the respect of equals if we listen. As in shut off preconceptions and predjudices and inwardly digest (Remember!) the verbal, emotional and subtle content of what is being expressed. Again, "Cyaan badda" does it's work of mental slavery. Yea, and 'rush'.

If one can be corrected on fishing, planting and building techniques without being embarrassed, whats the big deal about language skills?

Patois is taught to us everywhere except in schools. Keep it so. After one masters English, then one can attempt to master patois.

Uk Jean,I said nothing about spelling,TBNet mentioned typos. This cannot be about people who can't read or write,(LOL)this is for people who want to express themselves and are having difficulty. I think help is needed with understanding as well.
It boggles the mind how simple straightforward words get misunderstood, much less convoluted ones.
Many people I think, would welcome this help, especially since they would be anonymous. A valuable lesson to learn would be,make sure when you criticise, you understand what you are criticising, and not setting up straw men to match your criticisms.

I am an educated woman, juss because I went to Sandy Bank School. I recently posted an article and boy, my spelling of one word threw me off. I used a patois word instead of english and Turey responded with the correction. It was suttle and I appreciate you for that Turey. However, my chosen field requires that I spell and write on a daily basis, but that doesn't mean I am perfect. I make oodles of errors but thank God for spellcheck, a feature that TBN does not offer. People, we have more things to worry about in this life, we should just love and respect each other. Later mon!!!

So sorry I apologise Spooky Dude, you said 'grammar and construction'!

It was still about correcting people!

It's hilarious that anyone would expect this, or any website to "correct" any postings. That is not their responsibility. If people want to improve their skills, there is a wealth of opportunities too numerous to mention here. I'm with Have Compassion above: let's get the cuts and joint the party!

TBNet has given their response Spooky Dude. Let it rest.

to student- how often have you seen the words 'edited by TBNet' appearing on a post??

It must have been inadvertant FB. I have to check many of my spellings and would welcome any corrections. Iron sharpens iron eh?

Patois sometimes is appropriate and part of good communication for locals. Visitors can always ask.

Mr. Spooky Dude, your grammar is [edited by TB.Net]. Admittedly it is better than that of many others who write things here, but you make mistakes [edited by TB.Net]. I suggest you clean your own house before you say someone else has a dirty one.

Most of the people in TB and surrounding areas are in the fishing industry, farming and tourism. The latter brings our community members in touch with tourists and as far as I know, our folks comunicate quite well verbally with tourist who seems to actually enjoy our bit of accent.Writing in proper English is not a sin, but in my humble opinion syntax and the like, is not on the list of top 100 things that will help to improve TB.In my opion a Spanish corner or a German corner might have more merit. Stick a pin!Can anyone say if there was a JAMAL class in TB ?

I'm sorry Teacher, but what's your point? Yes I have seen TBNet editing posts. They do it all the time, even to me. Editing doesn't necessarily mean correcting per se. The only editing I have ever seen ON THIS SITE, have been the omission of something that the webmaster deems inappropriate. I have never seen this website correcting someone's grammer or spelling. Surely, as a Teacher, you must know the difference between omission and correction.

Mr. Spooky Dude has asked TBNet, "may I humbly ask that you perform editing of posts for grammar and construction." As did virtually everyone else, I believed this was an unreasonable request. As do the other readers, I enjoy Jamaican patios and do not mind misspellings and incorrect grammar on this site.

My point was I believed Mr. Spooky Dude should have been 100% positive HIS grammar and construction was correct before he criticised others. I have spotted numerous mistakes in his postings. I don't care about his mistakes; I am annoyed by his presumption that his grammar and construction are pristine.

If TBNet "edits" (deletes) some words from postings because they believe these break their rules, this is their privilege.

English Teacher my grammar is edited by TBNet makes no sense. TBNet is defeating communication. It is so ridiculous, this editing. Now I don't know what you were trying to say. DId I make mistakes, possibly. Please point them out so I can learn from them. Thank you!
To TBnet what could be wrong with my grammar that could not be printed?!! We are all big people this crazy obsession has got to stop!! iT IS SERVING NO USEFUL PURPOSE! You know something else Teacher, I was not referring to mistakes.

Enough is enough. The posts we have in the queue are simply over the top. The bickering back and forth serves no purpose and it's against the spirit of positive vibes we try to promote. Therefore we're closing this thread.

To the majority of people who post positive and thoughtful messages on the Forum, we say thank you and hope you will continue keep doing so.
